Early 17th until 250 years later 

1793 : slaves were the foundation of American economy (cotton gin)

Late 18th :beginning of abolitionist movement in the north of Africa 

1820 : Missouri compromise banned slavery in the west

               Leads to a division, South of America takes it as a threat

1857 : Supreme Court decides “blacks” weren’t citizen so slavery’s back

1860 : election of Abraham Lincoln, member of anti-slavery, Republican party convince southerners that slavery would never expand into new territories, perhaps abolly it forever. This precipitated Civil War

During the war, Abraham Lincoln made his famous emancipation proclamation = to gave back their freedom to the slaves, Union army and navy.

After the 13th  amendment to the Constitution, slaves were freed, officially.

1860 : Abraham Lincoln is the 16th president elected in the USA.
March 1861 : He leads the creation of the coalition called The Confederate States of America which is composed of 7 states : Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, Mississipi, South Carolina and Texas.
April 1861 : Beginning of Civil War after gunfires in Fort Sumter in South Carolina = 75 000 volunteers called by Lincoln have joined the Union Army. War may caused by economic issues because Slavery was one of the main business in South and some of these states wanted to maintain their status about it. During the war, Abolutionnists have made 2 demands (let free black men fight in the Army and the emancipation of slaves) which were accepted by Lincoln.
December 1862 : Emancipation Proclamation abolish slavery in the USA.
April 1865 : End of the Civil War = Freedom of 4 million slaves. 
December 1865 : 13th Amendment, passed by the Congress to Constitution of the USA, secure the freedom of slaves. But there was a period of confusion due to the hard transition of ancient slaves to citizens, working for their ancient masters to win money for the majority of them.
1867 : Ascension of Andrew Johnson, has been Lincoln vice president and a slaveowner in Tennessee, to office after Lincoln assassination which happened after  First Reconstruction Act in March of the year. After that, 10 of the 11 states, who have fought South, were placed under military rules, divided in 5 districts and saw their government annulated. The Reconstruction ables many reforms but didn't alter economic disparity between ancient owners and ancient slaves.
Congress extend right of vote to all free men which ables to Black men to vote but it  also didn't alter the Republican tendancy in country. This is followed by violence waves in South against Black people (ex: Kukuxklan)= End of Slavery but Following of the struggle against racism.
