My hot take on social media influencers is that they are very good for society. Social media provides a great platform for athletes to promote themselves and different sponsorships they have. This helps them reach a large number of people at one time. Another reason social media influencers are good is they are informative. You can learn about new products about to drop, or learn about a product you never heard

The power of suggestion that social media influencers have has a bad effect on teenagers and other viewers. A majority of the influencers post pictures and videos that make their lives and bodies look perfect...For most people, a healthy drive to be more physically fit is good, but when they see a girls perfect body on social media, this can sometimes create an unhealthy and overcritical view of themselves. This has driven many people to an unhealthy lifestyle based on goals that are nearly impossible to meet because they want to look like “that girl on instagram” who in reality, edits her pictures to the extreme. All of the short 5 day or 30 day diets that people claim helps you lose 5 o 10 pounds (and so on) are very detrimental to our hoealth because in a lot of cases, these diets are taking most, if not all of the nutritionout of our diets, along with the toxins that it claims to get rid of. This need to be just like the people we see on social media drives us to buy the products they use like makeup, food, clothes, etc. This shows that influencers are just a big advertisement geared towards kids and teens...In reality, these influencers are just working for different companies to get our views and make money off of our need to be just like them.

I am pretty indifferent with this topic because I believe social media influencers can be a good and bad thing. They can be good when they use their platform for good and spread awareness about important things that are happening in the world. But, they can also be bad when young people see how the influencers look or how they live and they compare themselves to them. This can cause someone's mental and physical health to go down.

The correlation of likes and shares does not equal the happiness of oneself. It has a strong hold on manys mental health comparing themself to the perfect photoshopped version they see on their screens.

People are followers. Not just on social media but in pretty much every aspect of life. And the media in general shows us the "perfect body image" and promotes it as what everyone should look like. The people that have this body image are looked up to by others who feel the need to have that same image for themselves. Basically, people gain followers off of others insecurities.

I think it is fair to say, although not every onfluencer does this on purpose. Yes, there are the "health and body gurus" that knowingly promote an unhealthy image of themselves to others, but there are also normal people such as actors, musicians, and athletes who also have an impact on mental health. Pretty much every little kid in some point in their life says "I wanna be famous when I grow up" and in some cases people will do whatever they can to achieve this goal. This can develop a good drive to reach this goal or it can be detrimental to their health due to the fact that it is not very realistic for most people and they will end up getting hurt by the unfortunate truth that not everyone can "be famous when they grow up."

No it's not unfair. Not everything is so black and white. Yes I'm sure there are a few influencers who want to do good for their audience but the way socially media works it does not always get that point across, a picture can be interpreted a 1,000 different ways. "A 2019 study of more than 6,500 12- to 15-year-olds in the U.S. found that those who spent more than three hours a day using social media might be at heightened risk for mental health problems." says the Mayo Clinic and I believe that is a direct affect of us comparing ourself to the influencers we see online
