According to the story, some events that foreshadowed the climax is when the story states, "staring toward the darkness and the approaching figure. People stand in the shadows watching. Don Martin joins them, carrying a shotgun. He holds it up.] Don We may need this". This is because it is slowly telling us that there is a figure in the darkness that makes Don Martin think that they need a shotgun, and Don Martin's intentions were to shoot the figure if necessary.

The climax of 'The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street" is when Pete Van Horn was shot by Charlie. This scene was foreshadowed because everyone heard clickety clacking sort of noise, everyone started going mad. They saw a figure and as it was getting closer Charlie had pulled the trigger. The only reason why the story foreshadowed is because Don gave Charlie the gun making it seem like there should and will be something they will use it on.

The events that foreshadowed this climax was when Don had a shotgun, and Steve took it out of Don's hand, saying "A shotgun? Good lord- will anybody think a thought around here? Will you people wise up? What good would a shotgun do against--." After that, Charlie took the shotgun from Steve's hand and shot Pete Van Horn with it since all Charlie saw of him was a dark figure.

One of the events that foreshadowed the climax was when Mr. Goodman said, "As God is my witness...you're letting something begin here that's a nightmare!" This would indicate that when the neighbors started to accuse Mr. Goodman and his family of being aliens, it would have a bad consequence. Prior to the climax, there was an event that foreshadowed the climax. This was when Don Martin came running to the crowd of people carrying a shotgun, saying, "We may need this," after the crowd saw a dark figure in the shadows, worried if it was some alien coming for them. Charlie then proceeded to take the gun and blindly fire at the figure, who turned out to be Pete Van Horn.

The foreshadowing of this event was when a boy named Tommy confronts Charlie and Steve. He then introduces a new theory about how there is an alien spy in the crowd of humans. This theory then leads to suspicion in the crowd. From this event you can tell that later on in the story there will be an event that leads to the blame and superstition on everyone introduced in the story.

The climax of the story is when Charlie shoots Pete Van Horn. He shot him because he was scared that Pete was a monster. What may have foreshadowed this was them arguing before this happened. And also a line by Goodman a while before this happened, "And you don't even know what you're starting because let me tell you...let me tell you - this thing you're starting - that should frighten you.¨ His words foreshadowed that something that something bad is going to happen.
