How did you feel during the workshop?

I walked in nervous but excited, although I didn't enjoy drama and most other arts in school, I knew that I would enjoy it now that I am older and understand why it's taught and how it can help in our lives.

What were your most uncomfortable moments?

The start! I thought that I would be a little more confident than I was but I felt more nervous once we actually started. However, those nerves dissapeared pretty quickly.

What were your most enjoyable moments?

Going off into smaller groups for the post card freeze frames. It was good to start getting to know other students a little better and seeing how we all work in a team, whos quiet, confident, etc.

What did you discover about how you learnt in this workshop?

I discovered that I seem to learn well when moving around, interacting with different people and learning through play!

How might primary students learn in drama?

I think primary students can learn a lot in drama without even realising that they're leaning because they're having so much fun! Drama is an awesome way for students to learn teamwork, confidence, communication and problem solving through acting out stories and situations, working in big and small groups, putting on performances, participating in class and group discussions and the list goes on!

Walking into this week I felt a lot more confident since I made a couple of friends in this tutorial last week and partned with someone for the speech too! Still a little bit nervous but it didn't take as long this week for me to relax. Christine has created a really friendly and supportive environemnt which has made it easier to step out of my comfort zone and make frineds. So far the Arts tutorial has been the easiest to make friends in and get to know lots of people.

With the speech coming up, I'm definitely feeling the nerves but I'm also really excited to test my public speaking skills again. I know that in the last few years since high school I have come a huge way with my presenting skills and actually tend to enjoy it now. Picking Ana as my partner was a really good choice, we've gotten along really well and put in a lot of work for this.

Waiting to do our speech was like a rollercoaster, adrenaline constantly going up and down, waiting for our names to be called. I feel like we did really well and I'm so proud of Ana for getting through it. I know that she was really anxious when we were up there but she pushed through. I feel like overall we did quite well, especially for our first assignment. The weeks are flying by.

Dance has helped me remember why I didn't dance as a child. I love moving, I love flowing movements and freestyling dance etc, but when it comes to choreographed movements I'm a little bit hopeless. But as with all of these tutorials, I have loved them for stepping me out of my comfort zone. The turtle by the roadside warmup was intense! I was honestly sweating after. It takes me a little bit to get the hang of movements and I really struggle with keeping time so I need to keep practising on that.

I'm so glad that we had our group sorted for the performanceso early on! I feel like because we're good friends now, we work really well together but we also all want to do really well in this. Doing the Space Rabbits dance was really fun to put together. I was by far the slowest in our group to learn the dance and keep up, but theres big progress in the last 2 weeks! After a few practices I had it down packed and kept up with the group. I was able to remember all the steps (well, mostly) and had so much fun in the process. The song has been stuck in my head all day now but im not mad about it. I actually did that dance for my partner when I got home, that's how much I loved it. This arts unit has brought out that childish fun which I cherish and adore. I've really appreciated having these tutorials to let loose and just have a laugh.

The video is Kyle practicing his birthdate dance (a very brief part of it). We thought this was hilarious because he is always SUPER 'extra' with everything he does, so of course for the birthdate dance he went all out. I wish I took more photos and videos throughout the semester but theres not much time to since we're so busy.

It feels good to have some of the scenes down packed for the performance. I feel like it's all really coming together now. Performing a scene for the class was also really helpful to see how we performed for an audience and I think we did quite well. We still need to get our confidence up though and project our voices a little bit more. If we keep practising, I think we'll smash it!

practising our performance in front of Christine today without having practised anythign since last week, meant that we were a disaster! Normally we're really confident in what we're doing, even with improv, but I think we were just nervous and unprepared. After that though, we went outside and just practised over and over again, took some videos as well and now I feel like we're back on track.

Overall, I am so proud of how far I have come in this unit. It's helped me to become so much more confident and has given me so many different strategies I can incorporate into my future classrooms. The different types of ice breakers I will definitely use for classrooms for my students to get to know each other and also to help establish a supportive learning environment. I can't wait to use my improvised drama lesoson plan with actual students one day! Next week is the final week and our group performance. I know that however we end up doing, I will be really proud of what we've created.
