Focus on right or wrong over intentions. Consequences follow Actions.

Children judge situations more black and white rather then on a deeper empathetic level. It's difficult for them to get by doing a wrongful action for a greater good. They believe an act that is against the law or against rules are still wrong because their operating on a pre-conventional or conventional level of comprehension for actions is based either on a punishment-reward or a desire to conform to social norms

Children though they place rules over intentions can still acknowledge moral decisions and intentions. The children in the video were able to say "even though his wife was sick" or that "they could see why" but couldn't get past or justify the fact that it was breaking a law/rule. Stealing is stealing mentality. Children at this age haven't formed a higher level of empathy because they are at a stage where there is a focus on learning and following rules and social structure. Some of the older children were able to make the decision that stealing was better then someone dying but still concluded that it was wrong to steal. Children also differ in their reasoning why you shouldn't steal. Some said that it was wrong because they would be punished and some said that it was wrong because it was breaking the rules. This proves their operating on a level of decision making based on punishment-reward and the need to follow social rules and norms.
