4. What are some things you like to do for team building?

Cpl Green: “Team building is easy for us since we work in an environment where we have to look out for each other. It creates a bond even if you don’t know that co-worker very well. Also, we like to go on outings outside of work for enjoyment. This job can be very stressful so in order to stay competent sometimes you have to do activities unrelated to work.”

3. How do you monitor your team’s work ethic?

Cpl. Green: “I make visits to the block to watch how my officers work and to see if they are using the skills that I taught them during training. I remind my officers all the time that we are not here to punish the inmates, their punishment is being here away from their families and society. With that being said, I expect the inmates to be treated with respect and dignity. I also watch how my staff interact with each other. When I see situations that I feel violate the ethics code, it is addressed immediately.”

2. How do you deal with conflicts that your staff present to you?

Cpl. Green: “I refer back to the policy first and always. I like to have input on the issue because it wouldn’t be bought to my attention if my staff didn’t need me, so at this point, I jump in and offer my help. There are situations that call for me to think outside the box. As long as it is not a violation of rights or ethics, I will go forward with whatever it is that my officers want to do.”

1. For what reasons do you think you were chosen for this position?

Cpl Green: “I believe I was chosen for this position for a few reasons. I am the senior officer out of all of the female CO’s on the 12-8 shift and I trained many of you. This shows that I was willing to step up and be a leader when new staff was hired. I have been told many times that I have the natural characteristics of a leader (I agreed). Last but not least, I was always honest and truthful about my mistakes, which goes a long way in the environment we work in.”
