The picture above is representing a room that was once messy and then got picked up to a higher standard. When Jeannette emphasized “A wind picked up, rattling the windows, and the candle flames suddenly shifted, dancing along the border between turbulence and order.” Previously in the story Jeannette's entire life was built on chaos never knowing if she would eat that night, if some random homeless was going to sexually assault her, or even if she would have her parents with her the next morning. Jeannette never had a set ordered life she was always in the middle of chaos and never knew what to expect the next day.

I chose this picture because it shows a group of people accepting and welcoming you in. Showing that Jeannette finally accepted who rex was. When Rex was on the hospital bed hooked up to machines Jeannette said to Lori "I knew dad would have hated that, spending his final moments in a hospital hooked up to machines." reminiscing about the time he took her out of the hospital the Rex Walls-style. Jeannette also says to Lori that
"He'd wanted to be out in the wild somewhere." which is her finally accepting that he is going to pass away and letting him go the way he would want to be.

The photo above is showing a young boy growing up through the steps of becoming an adult. When Jeannette stated “If you don't want to sink, you better figure out how to swim” in my opinion she was implying that in life you have to figure out your way around or else it will not be in your favor. This has been shown throughout the entire book with Jeannette learning many life skills on her own to provide for her siblings and to stay alive. The lack of parenting and teaching really caused Jeannette to have to learn to fend for herself and her siblings, she was taught on her own to live and survive in the world.

This picture represents a man who is severely disappointed and is thinking of all the times he has been let down. This shows a feeling you would feel if every second of the day you were let down by parents who were suppose to take care of you and your pets. This is a good example of when Rex "stopped the car, grabbed Quixote by the scruff of the neck, and tossed him out the window." Which really got to Jeannette and Brian making them want to get out of the car in the hot Arizona sun and help their pet. Rex did not care about anything and would always make his children disappointed with him.

This picture above is showing the word promises being split into two referencing promises being broken. In the story when Rex wasn’t telling us about all the amazing things he had already done. When Rex started to state "He was telling us about the wondrous things he was going to do. Like build the Glass Castle" which later in the story really came out as a broken promise with Rex passing away before he was able to keep his promise in building a beautiful glass castle for his family. Throughout the book Rex would make many promises to his family but would never accomplish any of them always letting his family down.
