Essentially we created a google form full of amazing race style clues and challenges. Some of these involved acting out concepts, others involved finding answers from web resources. All involved learning. The students would receive a clue on google forms and they would have to receive a password to unlock the next question on the form. This used Data validation of the question response.

In argument writing, we created an "Argument Town" on our whiteboard. On the board, you entered "Argument Town" on a road that branches off into many exits. The roads were drawn in color on the whiteboard. Each "road" was a different path for argument writing. Before going on the road, you could stop at a "Rent-A-Car" for your trip. Once you picked your car, the car represented all of the choices you would need to make once you had selected your road. The board can literally show the pictures of the roads, the cars, and the Rent-A-Car. Through my sharing this example, you can see that anyone can tell a story and create a visual analogy on the board. This is much more entertaining for students, and the visuals will make the concepts much more clear- especially complicated ones that have multiple steps. Plus, the students will appreciate seeing something different on the whiteboard. This is a response to a shorter text that gives a summary and then describes the theme with at least 2 different examples from the texts.  Those who didn't do flipgrid did the typical typing on the Schoology quiz.  But here is the link for our flipgrid first timers:  Text is "Those Shoes"  https://flipgrid.com/4d6824
I loved it and so did the kids! I liked the redo option because the kids were able to rehearse their videos and revise their responses each time!

Students had to name a challenge or injustice in their novel, explain how the character was reacting and then decide if this reaction was believable based on what they knew about the character and time period.

We came back to our videos the following week and gave each other feedback since it was our first time! We looked for traits of good speaking and content but also made "wishes" to help our classmates improve! Students enjoyed making the videos and their peer feedback to each other was great!
