Structure of the news text:

Orientation:

Bridget Phillipson, the Education Secretary from the Labour Party in the UK, shared her views on the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in reducing teachers’ workload, particularly in administrative tasks.

Body:

Phillipson stated that AI could be used to create lesson plans, assess students' work, and prepare academic reports.

Orientation

Bridget Philipson, an education minister who has a question about "will the tool (AI) save time?" which she conveyed while attending a Hackathon sponsored by the Department of Education in central London. In this news, Phillipson is presented listening to developers explain how their tools can compile student reports, improve writing samples. The purpose of this event is to develop tools that can make it easier for teachers to assess student learning outcomes.

Body

The main information that I got in the article is Bridget Philipson who thinks that AI will be useful for helping teachers' work such as freeing teachers from repetitive tasks and bureaucracy, allowing teachers to focus on students and helping solve recruitment problems that plague schools in England. Philipson has hopes for AI technology to be used throughout schools, with staff supported by the use of the best technology to improve student learning outcomes and make teaching a more attractive career to pursue. Philipson also believes that AI is not a technology to replace teachers because technology cannot replace face-to-face human contact. In addition, this article also explains various tools designed to make teachers' work easier. One of them, a tool to assess how well students are doing by attaching circuit boards to vocational qualifications such as T-levels was demonstrated by Jessica Leigh Jones, chief executive of iungo Solutions.

Quotes

Some quotes from the article include:

“I think technology will have an important role to play in freeing up teachers’ time, and in freeing up that time, putting it to better use with more face-to-face, direct teaching that can only ever be done by a human,” said the minister of education Bridget Philipson

"Using a digital microscope, the tool can rapidly scan dozens of boards and provide feedback to students in a fraction of the time needed by a qualified and experienced electrical engineer – a specialist role in short supply"said chief executive of iungo Solutions Jessica Leigh Jones

"It (applications) would save teachers a “phenomenal amount of time” that could be spent with pupils because they would no longer have to stop and write down each observation" application developer Ewan Dobres

Conclusion

The conclusion given from this news is that AI will be a useful tool to make teachers’ jobs easier. In addition, the use of AI for assessment is considered to save time and allow teachers to give more writing assignments to students that are usually difficult for them to assess.

Purpose of analysis

My opinion about the purpose of this news analysis is to provide information to readers about how AI will make it easier for teachers to assess and correct student learning outcomes in an effective time. In addition, it also provides readers with information about various tools that have been developed to make teachers' work easier. However, this news also contains the opinion of Bridget Philipson who states that AI is a complement and a tool that will help teachers and staff in providing better for children. Philipson also believes that using AI does not mean replacing the role of teachers but about how technology can complement human face-to-face contact that cannot be replaced.
