This was a attempt to bind colonists back together after they were all fed up with the English government and wanted more freedom.

One thing in specific is the Navigation Acts, which completely shut down trade anywhere else besides in The Colony. The Navigation Acts set back development in the colony and forced the colony to be more dependent on itself instead of reaching out and growing as a place. Things like the wool act, The iron Act, and the Molasses Act all backed up the Navigation Acts in ending more trade and putting more rules on to the colonists. The Colony started off as a place that promoted self-rule but things such as the Mayflower Compact which establish their own government and the fundamental order of Connecticut which limited power for the government and promoted more self rule. Once the Navigation Acts were established things changed. Self-rule was looked against and more and more things were created to get rid of self rule in The Colony.The Salutary neglect was the last part of the colony that we saw self rule, the colonists took it into their own hands to ignore the Navigation Acts and started to smuggle things in and find ways around the acts. As the colony grew, self-rule decreased and more government officials and rules were established. Overall I feel as if self-rule was not as liked and promoted as some may think.
