A book that I recommend reading is The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster, I recommend that you read this book if you like adventurous books, and fantasy books. This story is about Milo, a bored young boy who receives a mysterious package, which, when built is a tollbooth. And when Milo enters the world of "Lands Beyond", where he meets Tock, a watchdog that joins him on his journey. On Milo's magical meander through the "Lands Beyond", he has to unite "Dictionopolis" and Digitopolis" in order to restore peace to the "Lands Beyond".

My Antonia

Mind Work:

Characters: Jim, Antonia, Emmaline, Josiah and Lena

Setting: Black Hawk, Nebraska

Conflict: Jim and Antonia are best of friends, but when Jim's grandparents have to move again, Jim has to say goodbye to Anotina, who he loved. Antonia feels the same way about Jim, but the two never communicate about it. Jim then goes on to move, but still wrestles with the thought of Antonia and Black Hawk, but he has a successful job and life, does he really want to risk it all going back to the small prairie town?

Theme:
When you really want something, just do it, you have nothing to lose, here in My Antonia, Jim never told Anotina how he felt about her, and this caused, when he left, a ripple in their friendship. Jim, of course, was happy with his wife, but he would still wonder about what his life would've been like, had he stayed with Antonia.

Heart Work

1) In the book, I really felt for Jim, especially when he was adjusting to life, I myself have never moved, at least when I could remember it. But I can understand the uncertainty that Jim feels when he is on the prairie, when I am someplace new, I feel almost shy, just like Jim, and I feel very uncertain about what to do, just like Jim.

2) I understand how Jim always wants to strive for the best in life, I myself would want to have the best for me and my family. And unfortunately, you have to leave some friends behind, intentionally or not. Which is just part of growing up.

3) In My Antonia, I felt for Jim when he was reminiscing about his life, it is always bittersweet to reminisce about life, especially about when you are young, it makes you appreciate everything even more.

Over the course of Unit 1, I felt like I had fulfilled my goals, although I only read one classic over the course of the Unit, the classic was one of my favorite books. I did read some more mentally challenging books, such as Dear Martin. Even books like The Limit, which have a dystopian side, make you think more about the book. I also felt like I read a decent number of books, although, I feel like I could work on reading just 2 or 3 more books during Unit 2. In closing, I felt that overall I had done a great job of achieving my Unit 1 goals.
