India had materials so they were not poor. The British on the other hand wanted control over India because India was wealthy. India couldn't do anything about it because they weren't wealthy. Britain attacked and stole from India during the late 1800 and early 1900. Britain took over 1 million Indian soldiers away from their country and over 43,000 of those soldiers died. which made India want financial and in general independence.
