His model showed that the planets orbited around the sun. Copernicus also believed that the earth rotated completley once a day around its own axis. His main discovery and belief was that every planet in the solar system moves in elliptical orbit instead of a perfect circle. He also stayed that the closer a planet was to a sun, the faster it moved. Using the telescope, it was also found that Venus went through phases, much like the moon did. His model and theories introduced gravity which further improved his model by being able to explain orbits in the solar system.
