One of my colleagues showed me EFT tapping! I had heard about it but hadn't seen it in practice. I got to hear about the positive effects of it directly with a client as well. Very cool! I took away just how effective learning new coping mechanisms can be.

My clients teach me every week! I am always amazed that they come ready to be vulnerable and learn. They try new things and are willing to talk about the hard and messy. It makes me look at certain friends differently who I know struggle with mental health. I think, if my clients can show up, learn, grow, seek change, you can too!

My practice manager really emphasized the potential for clients to introduce us to new and unexplored areas of human experience. My takeaway is that when lucky enough to be presented with something like this, you are really going somewhere no one has gone before and simultaneously get to be in a sacred place with your client but also, you get to learn something no one else really has.

My co-counselor taught me about some DBT skills to use with persistently negative students. I was thankful for this interaction because she gave me helpful information without me having to look it up - sounds silly but helpful during a busy school day!

One of my client's taught me something new through the observation of his behavior. I now realize I need to be aware of my own emotions and values as I enter the therapeutic space and not match there negative/angry energy.

A social worker at our office challenged the phrase "working harder than the client" and it really got me thinking....isn't that our job to work hard? the client is here at treatment, working towards recovery, processing his trauma...etc...who's to say he's not working very hard

I had great feedback from the counselor I was co-facilitating group with about slowing down. I tend to talk fast when I am nervous. She also gave me advice to ask more open-ended questions.

I learned from my supervisor that different developmental stages need to approach conflict resolution in different ways. I have typically worked with older students who can articulate their part in conflict, and younger students may need to be informed about how they participated in conflict.
