Direction is the way that you have to travel to get from one place or object to another place or object. It's usually measured in terms of compass directions: north, south, east, and west.
 Do you know which instrument we use to find out directions?
Yes, It is a compass.
 Similarly while reading a map we make use of a compass rose shown on one corner of the map.

Map scale is the relationship between distance on the map and distance in real life. That means that distance on the map always has a constant ratio with distance on the ground.Scale on a map is important in order to give the map reader a sense of size. Maps are just about always smaller than what they really represent, and scale is a way of quantifying how much smaller they are.

Understand the difference between the large scale and small scale maps then write them down in your notebook.
A large scale map only shows a small area, but it shows it in great detail. A map depicting a large area, such as an entire country, is considered a small scale map.  A small scale map shows more territory, but it is less detailed.
There are four cardinal directions or cardinal points: North, South, East, and West, denoted by the initials N, S, E, and W, respectively. On a map, it is common to indicate only the North direction.
