2020 LA Homeless Count

The Greater Los Angeles Point-In-Time Homeless Count is an annual survey, conducted by volunteers on a single night in January, that records the total number and demographic breakdown of the unhoused community in Los Angeles. The survey gives us key insights into the structural and systematic causes of homelessness by revealing, for example, how foster-care youth and individuals of color experience homelessness at disproportionately high rates. The 2021 Count was cancelled due to COVID-related difficulties in gathering volunteers, but click here to view the key findings from the 2020 Count.

// 0.5 HP hrs = Receive 30 mins for investigating the trends and key results from the 2020 Homeless Count presentation and responding to it via the Media Hours Form //

The largest Tiny Home village in the US was recently opened in Highland Park, Los Angeles. Funded and constructed by the City of Los Angeles, the village features 117 units (containing 224 beds) for unhoused individuals seeking immediate, transitional housing. It is still too early to gauge whether the village, and the tiny home model in general, is an effective solution to the housing crisis in LA -- but the project has garnered much hopeful support from housing rights activists.

To learn more about the Tiny Home Village, click here for the official website, here for the basic rundown; and here for pictures.

// 0.5 HP hrs = Receive 30 mins for viewing the links above and for sharing your opinions on the Tiny Home solution to homelessness via the Media Hours Form //
