The survey gives us key insights into the structural and systematic causes of homelessness by revealing, for example, how foster-care youth and individuals of color experience homelessness at disproportionately high rates. The 2021 Count was cancelled due to COVID-related difficulties in gathering volunteers, but click here to view the key findings from the 2020 Count.

Funded and constructed by the City of Los Angeles, the village features 117 units (containing 224 beds) for unhoused individuals seeking immediate, transitional housing. It is still too early to gauge whether the village, and the tiny home model in general, is an effective solution to the housing crisis in LA -- but the project has garnered much hopeful support from housing rights activists.

Click here for a 12-minute Ted Talk by Albuquerque mayor Richard Berry on his citywide initiative to help pan-handling unhoused individuals by giving them cleaning day jobs and a place to sleep.

Click here for an 18-minute Ted Talk by law enforcement consultant Dean Joseph on his interactions with mentally ill members of the unhoused community in Skid Row, and his ideas on how the police could more effectively handle those interactions and care for those individuals.
