2. What is EIS? - Definition, example
An Enterprise Information System (EIS) is any kind of information system which improves the functions of enterprise business processes by integration. This means typically offering high quality of service, dealing with large volumes of data and capable of supporting some large and possibly complex organization or enterprise. An EIS must be able to be used by all parts and all levels of an enterprise


3. Why EIS is important in a business?
EIS are intended as decision support tools for the management. Since those strategic decisions are based on a wide range of input information, they always need to be well integrated with operational systems in a business. Here, EIS provide summary information to monitoring of business performance. Where this is often achieved through measures known as KPI.

4. Types.
3 types of EIS
-CRM
Customer relationship management systems were developed to address the need to raise a sales department's productivity. With CRM functions, a company learns more about its customers' needs and buying behavior. Equally importantly, CRM supports mass e-mail communications and automates the sales process.
-ERP
The enterprise resource planning system integrates software applications, such as purchasing, finance, human resources and inventory management. Within an ERP system, the integrated software modules communicate and share data. Each of these modules consists of multiple applications that execute end-to-end business processes.
-SCM
A supply chain is the collection of people, tasks, equipment, data and other resources required to produce and move products from a vendor to a customer. Supply chain management refers to the management of supply chain activities in an effective and efficient way to provide a company with a strategic advantage.

5. Benefits/Usefulness of EIS in a company
1.     Enhanced Business Reporting:

-A single source of truth – one integrated database for all business processes
2.     Better customer service:
- Better access to customer information
- Faster response times
-Improved on-time delivery
-Improved order accuracy
3.     Improved Inventory Costs:
-Only carry as much inventory as needed, avoid these common issues
-Too much inventory, and higher overhead costs
-Too little inventory, and longer customer fulfillment times
