Since the 16th century, the integration of Asian culture into American society has not been easy. Struck by the rules of conformity, Asian Americans quickly learned that being "different", having their own culture, communicating their language, and even eating their own foods in American society would only result in racist remarks and decrease their success in society. Children of Asian American immigrants soon resent their culture and heritage in order to be recognized in society. Eventually, realizing the incurable gap conflict it creates with their culture and even their own family, they lose identity within themselves and who they are. Should Asian Americans be expected to hide behind a mask and leave their culture in order to fit into American society?
