The stamp act required colonists to purchase a special stamp for legal documents, and any sort of paper products. This led to unfair taxation on the colonists in order for the British to gain money to pay for the debt from the French and Indian war. The stamp act was passed without any representation or say from the colonies and they had no place in the British government even though they were technically British citizens.

The stamp act was a tax that the British put onto the colonies. The British required for the colonies to print a special stamped paper to print things on. The colonies did not like this tax and began to fight back against Britain. Leading to many riots. Delegates of the Stamp Act then came together to write a document to the king to appeal the Stamp Act.

The stamp act was when Britain taxed the colonies on all paper goods so both the buyer of the paper and seller would have to pay taxes on paper goods. They called it the stamp act because they would stamp the paper if it was already taxed. This tax was created to pay for the expenses of the French & Indian war. The stamp act was one of the causes leading to the Revolutionary War because the colonists didn't want taxation if they didn't get any say in government.

After listening to the "No Representation, No Peace" podcast I was able to take away three main points; After the 7 years war the British government was economically destroyed, the stamp act and other forms of unfair taxation caused the colonies to protest the British government, and that in order to have change you must have protest. The seven years war left the British government economically exhausted and without any other way to gain money they looked to the colonies to provide revenue through taxes. The Stamp act, the taxes on tea, and other unfair treatment to the colonists caused outrage among the colonies. The boston massacre, the Boston Tea Party, and Aug. 14th are all examples of the colonies revolting from British rule. The podcast talked a lot about revolution and protest being the route of change in government and society. In order to get to change something that is unfair, or not suiting your way of life you need to change things in your current life, society, or government.

Stamp Act; Taxes every piece of paper passed down by the British and the colonists hate it. Stamp Act riots fueled the start of American Revolution.

Declaration of Rights and Grievances of Colonists was the document that the Stamp Act Congress made to get a repeal because the riots are getting out of control. To show this is a continental struggle not just regional. The delegates shows loyalty to the king to hopefully get a repeal. Main argument about taxes. Sent to England in late October.
November 1st was a mock funeral for liberty because that is when the Stamp Act went into effect. So they stopped using the stamped paper and continued to riot. Which is when the Stamp Act actually made England barely any money which resulted in a repeal for the Stamp Act.

The stamp act riots were huge factor in the revolution because it was the starting point of the congress meeting to discuss what was going on and it fueled the fire of the upcoming revolution.

The Stamp Act was only taxing the colonists for the French & Indian War costs and not all of Britain. The colonists thought that if the money isn’t going towards their causes then why are they only getting taxed when they didn’t even get a voice in deciding whether it should be a law. This brought along the saying, “No taxation without representation!”

I learned that eventually the colonists started boycotting against using stamped paper which hurt Britain’s revenue from the Stamp Act but they were still getting money from Georgia, Florida and the West Indies.
