To further explain love is a major theme in the play because every decision that the characters make throughout the play is influenced by their love for another character. When Demetrius goes to look for Hermia and Helena follows him, she does so because she is in love with Demetrius and wants him to be with her. However, the main reason why Demetrius followed Hermia in the first place was because he loved her. Overall, love controls the characters and guides the decisions they make, as their love outweighs their decision-making skills.

At the beginning of the play, we can see lots of family tension between Hermia and Egeus ( Hermia's dad ) because Egeus wants Hermia to marry but Hermia does not want to marry him because she is in love with Demetrius. Eventually, Egeus loses it and takes Hermia to Thesus the Duke and Egeus says "By the next new moon (The sealing day betwixt my love and me
For everlasting bond of fellowship),
Upon that day either prepare to die
For disobedience to your father’s will,

Happy ending

Another characteristic is a happy ending and the play has one. At the end of the play, everything is resolved by the lovers finally made up and love the right people because of the fairies and their magic spells. All 3 couples end up getting married and the actors do a funny and wonderful play and they live happily ever after
