         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Psychological</strong> <strong>Disorder</strong>- Syndrome marked by a clinically significant disturbance in an individual's cognition, emotion regulation, or behavior.<br>-Unjustifiable, maladaptive, atypical, disturbing<br><strong>Biological</strong> <strong>Influences</strong>- Evolution, individual genes, brain structure and chemistry.<br>-Hereditary, inactivity in left frontal lobe, lack of norepinephrin and serotonin (Prozac vs Lithium)<br><strong>Psychological</strong> <strong>Influences</strong>- Tress, trauma, learned helplessness, mood-related memories.<br>-poor self concept, faulty disturbed interpersonal relationship<br><strong>Social</strong>-<strong>cultural</strong> <strong>influences</strong>- roles, expectations, and normality.<br>- negative thought patterns/global and internal.<br>-Gender identity disorder is now gender dysphoria and more symptoms required for schizophrenia.<br><strong>Labeling</strong> <strong>Advantages</strong>- Appropriate treatment given, stimulates research on the disorder, payment of insurance since the person sees a professional<br><strong>Labeling</strong> <strong>Disadvantages</strong>- Labeling leads to the self-fulfilling prophecies of not being able to fit in fully with the rest of society.<br><strong>Diathesis</strong> <strong>Stress</strong> <strong>Model</strong>- psychological disorders develop due to a combination of genetic vulnerability and risk factors in the environment.<br>-Traumatic Life Events, Negative Family Life, Economic Disadvantages, Biological traits.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong><em>Panic Disorder-<br></em></strong><strong>Obsessive</strong> <strong>Compulsive</strong> <strong>Disorders</strong>- Obessions (thoughts) and Compulsions (actions)<br><strong>Somatoform</strong> <strong>Disorder</strong>- People complain of physical symptoms with no physical cause.<br>-<em>Hypochondriasis</em>- think you have it<br>-<em>Conversion</em> <em>Hysteria</em>- have it with no cause.<br><strong>Neurosis</strong>- Emotional disturbance characterized by excessive anxiety (can function in life)<br><strong>Psychosis</strong>- Emotional disturbance characterized by inability to cope in the real world (can't function).<br><strong><em>Eating Disorders-<br></em></strong><strong>Anorexia</strong>- an obsessive desire to lose weight by refusing to eat or limiting eating. Cause is unknown.<br><strong>Bulimia</strong>- <br><strong>Binge Eating Disorder- </strong>recurrent episodes of eating large quantities of food (often very quickly) and loss of control. At least once a week for 3 months.<br><strong><em>Anxiety Disorders- <br></em></strong><strong>Symptoms</strong>- Rapid Breathing, Perspiration, Shaking, Passing out.<br><strong>Phobia</strong>- Irrational, intense fear of something, interferes with normal life.<br><strong><em>Mood Disorders-<br></em></strong><strong>Major Depressive Disorder</strong>- Intense sadness (can last months to forever)<br><strong>Dysthymia</strong>- Involves less intense sadness, 2 years or more, biological origin.<br><strong>Seasonal Affective Disorder</strong>- Depression which occurs at specific times of the year with less sunlight.<br><strong>Bipolar Disorder</strong>- Involves both depressed and manic episodes.</div>]]></description>

Episodes of manicness and depression in people with Bipolar 1 are more aggressive.<br><strong>Signs of Mania and Depression-<br></strong><em>Mania</em>- Overly happy for&nbsp; a long period of time, easily agitated, talking very fast, extreme restlessness, impaired judgement<br><em>Depression</em>- Sad/hopeless for long periods of time, severe fatigue and lack of energy, problems with memory.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Amnesia</strong>-<strong>two</strong>-<br>Psychogenic- Memory loss for both distant and recent past, Lose personal identity, usually ends within hours or days.<br>Organic- Memory loss for recent past only, lose personal and general knowledge.<br><br><strong>Schizophrenia</strong>- Psychotic Disorder-<br>-Disordered thoughts, inappropriate actions, bizarre behavior, Genetic, Excessive Dopamine (Hallucinations and Delusions)<br>-Positive- hallucinations are added.<br>-Negative- behavior is reduced/flat effect.<br>Types-<br>Paranoid- Preoccupation with delusions or hallucinations.<br>Disorganized- Disorganized speech or behavior, or flat or inappropriate emotion.<br>Catatonic- Immobility, extreme negativism, etc.</div>]]></description>
