How much food does a typical family waste

According to the American Journal of Agricultural Economics, the typical Family will waste about 31.9% of their food, and the data I collected seem to show that the majority of Families surveyed wasted about 20% of their food, while about 45% of people said they wasted, next most was 30% of food, which about 30% of people said that their family wasted this much, while the penultimate amount of waste was 40%, which about 20% of people said their family wasted this much, while the lowest amount was 50%, the number of people that said they wasted was 5%. After seeing the statistics, one might be surprised at the amount of food wasted by some families might be shocking, most people, however, may not realize how much food they do waste, and when put on a larger scale, this allows for a large amount of Food waste from just Families.

How many people Compost

According to my survey about 48.5% of people Composted, and about 51.5% of people did not compost, according to the national average in 2018 from the EPA was 62%, so statistically the amount of people who compost has gone down considerably since 2018, and honestly, i, personally, thought the rate would be much higher, even at a decreasing rate, however the rate should go up, because if we compost, food that would go to waste, be used to produce more food and more soil to use.

How much Junk food do people buy a day

Researchers have found that about 36.6 people buy junk food every day, from my collected data, it was nearly the same, this is important because lots of junk food is wasted because people will forget about food and it gets stale or spoils, it also is harmful to the overall environment, because the packaging for junk food is often packaged in non-recyclable material, which leads to more landfill being filled.

Typically the American family goes to the grocery store about 1.6 times a week, and the data gathered shows this, but when people go to the store this many types a week, typically they will buy a few things they do not need, and when this happens, they will typically waste the food that they bought, leading a large amount of perfectly viable food being thrown away.

According to the USDA's Economic Research Service, roughly 30 to 40 percent of the food in the United States goes bad. That amounts to more than 20 pounds of food per person that goes bad each month. food that goes bad and is not eaten is the main cause of food being wasted, and if people let too much food go bad, which seems to be the case from the data, then many hungry people lose quite a bit of food, that they would appreciate, leading hunger rates too high for the amount of food that we have.

According to the NDRC, about 40% of food is not touched before consumption, which is a little bit high compared to the statistics I found, however, the statistic is still not good, that amount of food is to large to ignore, which is very troubling because many people are starving in the U.S. could use the food being wasted here.

according to the mayo clinic it is safe to keep leftovers in the fridge for about 3-4 days, and the FDA food code says at maximum it should stay in the fridge for 1 week, and a majority of people from my survey kept it through the FDA amount of maximum time, which was a nice change of pace, many people keep food as long as they can, however, they still throw it away while being uneaten, which is sad because it leads to more food that could be used to feed people who go hungry before they would go bad.

From the data shown in this informational presentation, i have shown that lots of food is wasted, and that leads to the reason to show this data and people's responses, is to finally show you what people can do about 25% of people said they could buy less food, leading to it being able for the store to donate to people in need, 25% of people said that they could give their extra food to people in need, 16.7% said they could start to compost old food, and 33.3 of people said that they could donate their untouched foods to charities, and there are more things that people can do, inform the government of the amount of food wasted, and try to get them to give incentives to stores who donate food, and I hope that these kinds of things can lead to less starvation suffering, and less waste produced that could be used in other places.
