The first thing in Smoke’s memory is a very comfortable cat bed β€” soft dark warmth and the feeling of heartbeat with motherly warm wet licks along the back of her head. When she opened her green eyes, Smoke realised that it was all simply non-living things and magic at work and that she was laying in a corner of her Mistress’ lavish room, curled up in her Kitten form. Kitten would be a misnomer for the stately Black Cat and afterwards, Portia Linetti, her Mistress, always addressed her as her β€œCat”, and Smoke thought herself β€˜different’ from the other Kittens because of it.

By and by, Smoke understood that she brought immense luck to Lady Portia. Portia was an ambitious Witch and Smoke aided her endeavours to be powerful. Pleased by her efforts, Portia set up a Cafe for Smoke, who had discovered that she had a knack for making beverages and baking.  Smoke and Lady Portia helped each other in life and that would have been Smoke’s life always but Lady Portia met an untimely death from an incurable illness.

And so, Smoke landed in the Castle of Silver Throne at Eldervale, hoping that she could still keep her Cafe.

It is a dark themed cafe whose bright features include β€” absolutely heavenly beverages and baking, a cosy atmosphere with just the right number of cats prowling around, a smoke alcove where, for a special price, one can receive occult services, and last but not the least, a special β€˜good luck’ cookie is handed out to one lucky customer every day and it is done personally by Smoke, who is known as β€œMadam Black Cat” to almost everyone around the place.
