This book is one of the most memorable of my childhood and teaches one about sharing and how it can make both yourself and others feel good. The Rainbow fish shares their envious rainbow, shiny scales with the other fish after learning that sharing makes everyone happier :)

Elmer was another favorite book of mine as a kid and teaches us about kindness and differences. Elmer the Elephant is covered in Rainbow patches and doesn't look like the rest of the Elephants. In this story we learn that looking different is okay, and we should treat people with the same kindness and care regardless of what's on the outside.

As a kid my grandfather would oftentimes read us stories of greek mythology or Aesop's Fables, which I absolutely loved. The Greek tale of Daedalus and Icarus was always one of my favorites, and teaches (in my opinion) to remain humble and to listen to those wiser than us and to never let pride get the best of us.

The Hunger Games was a book that I read countless times in middle school, I was utterly obsessed. I think this obsession mainly stemmed from the female heroine in the book series, Katniss, as I wanted to be just as courageous and powerful as she was.

This was another Middle School Favorite of mine, and despite being a very sad book I couldn't seem to get enough of it. A Summer to Die is from the perspective of a girl whose sister is dying from leukemia and ultimately does die. While tragic, I feel there are many important life lessons in this book and gives one good perspective.

This book was the first that I remember reading as a kid that challenged the idea of narration for me. The entire book is narrarated by "Death" which creates an ominous yet intriguing perspective. It also takes place during World War II so there are also many historical references which i loved.

I read this book at some point in my teenage years, which along with many crazy plot points details the harsh realizations that one has through the process of growing up, from childhood to adulthood, and becoming aware of the many sacrifices your family has made and continues to make. This book is enchanting yet very funny.

Carl Hiassen is an incredibly humorous and ridiculous writer, and this book is certainly one of my favorites of his. The story takes place in the Everglades and has larger than life crazy characters. It is truly insane and definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat laughing.

This was certainly a childhood favorite of mine due to the Greek Mythology that was weaved into every aspect of this book. The story has so many mythological references and in my opinion was an excellent way for this author to educate children on Greek Mythology in a very modern way. I would hole up at many a recess to reread this book.

In first grade I remember doing a project on the giving tree and the important lesson that this book teaches. I remember at the time I read this book being so sad for the tree because he loved the boy so much. Ultimately what this book teaches is that bringing joy to others will in turn make both us and them happy and to avoid being selfish at all costs.
