Our idea of showing homelessness in the world and the way people get to a stage in their life where they have to turn to drug and alcohol abuse was a very strong, it was a challenge to create something that would show what we were trying to tell the audience, from what the choreography would be, to what we were going to wear to what song we would use. I feel having a small group worked well for the idea even though there are thousands of people that are homeless in the world. We looked at some of the reasons people become homeless is because of drug and alcohol abuse and people let themselves go and end up homeless, which they won’t want to happen, but it did because they have an addiction that they can’t control. We tried to show the process within the piece. But to fit it into a two-minute piece was quite difficult as we didn’t give ourselves enough time to record. So when we do the next part of the unit as a group we need to set aside enough time to create the best movement and film. 

We chose as a whole group that in the choreographing process we would choreograph our own motif depending on what section we had (drugs, alcohol, social media, homelessness) and then we would show back to each other and record them then pick bits out that we liked about each other’s then merge them together and create a piece of movement. we had thought of an idea of using props but this meant that we would have to incorporate them into the movement and we didn’t want to over complicate the film. In the next part of the unit we may choose to use props. Once we got the camera we headed out and I felt nervous within the process as we weren’t in the safety bubble of the studio we were outside with a live audience, and anything could have happened when filming outside. One thing we didn’t think about was costume which didn’t make the film look true to the story line, we were all in big coats and leggings/jeans and it didn’t look like we were ‘homeless’ but we go on with recording. we began recording and it seem to flow and we finished recording quite quickly but as we progressed we thought of different angles of the camera and it didn’t match with our story boards, this was another thing that I struggled with, is writing the story boards so I had to get my group to help me but as we went one we thought we would split the responsibility and I would edit the clips together and the rest of the group would do the storyboards. 

Editing the film was the stronger pert for me, I had some experience of editing before, so I had somewhat of a head start so when working with the editing software I felt like I was working better than I would have if I was doing the storyboards. Editing the clips together I feel that t was so simple as we had followed out storyboard for the most part but when I see an opportunity to add more effect to the film I did but I consulted my group to make sure it was okay as I didn’t want them to be surprised when they see it.

 I feel like the end result was better than we thought it was going to be, but we still could have made it even better by adding props and a theme for the costume and wear a certain costume. I feel that we worked well as a group and we go the task done, if we were to do it again I feel that we would have spent more time with the storyboards and thinking about different camera angles and position of the dancers as well as the location, I feel that we didn’t really put much thought into the location and just picked somewhere local. We could have looked into places that people go to when they are homeless, or organisations that help the homeless and use that to our advantage and get in contact with them to see if we could use their facilities to film.
