If you were a merchant you probably lived in a better house than a serf, maybe two floors and you had more than the serfs and peasants. If you were the Lord you were like the King of the manor. You had people working for you and you lived in a large house and you didn't really have to do much work. You were always being paid by the peasants because you wanted them to pay you for anything they wanted to use or do. You were the "top-dog" and owned all of the land in the manor. Serfs were the bottom class. Peasants were one up from them, because serfs were basically slaves. Merchants are above the serfs and the peasants. It was hard for most people, especially peasants and serfs, but they had everything they needed in the manor, such as protection and food. The manors were in Europe, so it was grassy, there were rivers and crops, and probably warm in the summer and cold in the winter. Also, the plague was spreading across Europe, so they were likely to catch that.
