I chose this video because I felt that it summarized the core concepts that people need to understand in order to be able to understand how markets function within the various types of economies -- local, regional, national, and global. Market failure happens when there is a situation of disequilibrium within the market structure due to markets being distorted. Basically, when the amount of goods or services being produced and supplied is NOT equal to the amount of goods and/or services demanded, a state of market failure occurs. I chose this video because at this point in time, due to the negative effects of covid, the global economy is going into a state of market failure. Covid is a negative external entity that has disrupted the equilibrium of the supply and demand of goods being produced and consumed everywhere. As a result of this market failure, the government of Canada provided employees that were subject to lay-offs with a source of income {CERB} and provided loans and other incentives to companies to help keep them afloat during this time. I chose this video, because on February 20th, 2020, the global stock markets did in fact crash suddenly due to the Covid pandemic. Predicting when prices drop is a great way to save money and can be done easily if supply and demand are taken into consideration. Predicting when a product will drop in price can simply be done by thinking logically about factors that cause increases and decreases in product prices within a specific market. for example, overnight the supply of gasoline does not change, but the demand for it drops. As a result, prices within that market decrease upwards of 8 cents for example. Another example is buying seasonal items or items that have seen a decrease in demand. Items like these can typically be bought at sale prices and stockpiled for future usage. Knowing when prices decrease can also be a valuable asset in knowing when prices will likely increase too.
