It helps us to better understand the world around us. It is found in health and medicine, in business, economics, education, sports and engineering.

It is used at the local grocery store as they keep their shelves stocked.

Today we will be learning about a statistic called probability. Probability is "the likelihood that something will happen." I'll write this on the board for you to reference. Let's take a look at this die. We're going to talk about how many numbers are on this die. Now let's talk about the probability of how likely it is we will roll a certain number. Lets practice this with a few numbers. The probability of rolling any number on a die is 1/6 since there are 6 numbers on a die. We'll be using this "Roll the Die" worksheet. Everyone will get one and a die.

You will be completing the table on this worksheet. The chance of rolling each number on a die is 1/6. Use tally marks to record how many times it takes you to roll each number once. Write each number as a fraction out of the total number of times you rolled for numbers 1-6. Now, that everyone is finished, raise your hands if you would like to share the amount of times you rolled the die for each number, and your total number of rolls.
