Over the years America has made an abundance of accomplishments that had progressed them to be the advanced country they are today. They started out being apart of England and following their rules. They did not sit well with English rule and they began exploring over to America, where they set up camp and started families and towns. The transportation system advanced quickly from wagons to cars, boats and trains. The culture and society changed from being only white men could vote and work, to women having more rights and opportunities. The slaves got their freedom from slavery by Lincoln, the 16th president. America has made a significant amount of progress throughout the years and is still continually growing today.

Progress has been an essential theme throughout the course of this class. From the beginnings of colonization up until present day, American society has constantly changed and advanced. New inventions such as the cotton gin and automatic reaper were built upon as society continued to grow. Colonists were able to industrialize the North and spread their homes all the way to the Pacific Ocean. The federal government transformed from a weak system under the Articles of Confederation into an effective, central government under the United States Constitution. Americans held strong to their beliefs. They fought for the progress of the nation and what they believed was best in both the American Revolution and the Civil War. Once the Civil War had concluded, US officials focused on reuniting the nation and healing the brokenness that slavery had caused. Without the progress contributed during the topics studied in this class, the United States would not be the country that it is today.

Over the course of the class, progress has been a main theme. From the first settlers coming to the United States up until present day, the country continues to progress and advance. All events that occurred in the early days of settlement led up to how the country is shaped today. The country started out as a place for people to escape their lives in Europe and to start a new life and began to grow as more and more settled in the new land. With these settlers came their ideas they brought whether it was on the subject of the government or new agriculture techniques. Their ideas kept growing and evolving which helped the country grow into an important world power. All the progress that has taken place over the past 400 years led to how the United States is formed today.

From the era of discovery to reconstruction, the United States has progressed from a land of unknown value and opportunity to one of the greatest powers in the world. Beginning with the explorers, America was seen as way to expand the home country's economic and political power. This motivated many European powers to devote much of their effort to colonizing the Americas. The most important of these powers were the British, who hoped to use America as an outlet for raw materials and trade. But as the British colonies progressed, many colonists felt a growing distance between them and their mother country. These feelings eventually caused the Revolutionary War, which led to an independent America. The new country now had to figure out how to progress on their own. They hoped to make a democracy that would be representative of the people and not turn into the form of govt they broke away from. As the U.S., settled on the Constitution, America began progressing almost instantly. During Jefferson's presidency, the country took the first steps toward industrialism. America would begin to expand territoriality with the Louisiana purchase. This progress would eventually lead to the Civil War.

Progress over the years from discovering to the years of reconstruction. Focus points have expanded and developed, from expanding our nation to ending slavery. As United States started expanding, the country was beginning to become independent. Advancements in technology has also helped progress our country with industrialization, factory systems, and agricultural improvements. Factory systems helped mass production, speeding up product making. Also, agricultural improvements such as the cotton gin and interchangeable parts help speed up production, and saved money on things such as workers and new machines. With slavery ending and women rights forming, equality was starting to take full force. Our country continued to give the people the power.
