I agree with how she interprets what a mirrorball can symbolize in society. I have seen how broken people can be put on display for people to poke fun at for their own amusement, whether it be in real life or online.

I think what Taylor said is a very profound metaphor. I see what she was trying to get at and think it is a very good comparison that describes the lives of many. I also connect with what she said about having to be different when your around different people and groups. I very much change the way I act based off the people I'm around.

I'm not a huge Taylor Swift fan, don't hate her just don't listen to her music a ton, but I do like how she described this song. I think it is true that a lot of people struggle with keeping up their several personalities with different people they're around. It gets to a point that a person can't control all those different personalities that surround them and they break. Society loves to see that, see the brokenness, and I think that's disappointing. So I like how Taylor Swift brought that idea into her music, people are put on a pedestal with such high expectations and it tears them down eventually.

I really like this metaphor as I do believe like a lot of the people in this world are broken and are constantly pretending to be ok. They can use those broken parts of them to entertain others and to appear ok when the focus is on, but the moment it isn't, you can see the pieces that have been broken by others and by the difficulties of this world. I know when I have gone to other schools for festivals, there is always a Mirrorball hanging in the auditorium. I'm not sure why, but it is. Because of that, you can see the brokenness of a Mirrorball as it is not the focus and there is not the light shinning on it to reflect it.

What Taylor said in this interview is so true! People can be broken down into so many millions of pieces and yet they still show up as so many all put together and all okay for other people

I love that she said we are "broken a million times and that is why they are so shiny." Everyone has so many invisible battles that they are fighting that it is so important to show each other grace and kindness. You never know what someone is dealing with each and every day. These struggles make us who we are. As we face and overcome each challenge, we become stronger and "shinier."

I've never been a celebrity, so on a public scale, I cannot relate. I do see how this could be true inside a community however. There are people who are constantly the bud of a joke and are the "old-reliable" when it comes to humor. There are also those who use their broken past and horrid experience to create joy and entertainment for others, which is incredibly sad in some ways, but also can serve as a way for some to cope.

I interpret this as instead of being put on a pedestal, instead being broken but still shining despite it all. I realize that this is not the message Taylor Swift was trying to convey, but when I personally think of a disco ball I think of the light it brings, and the absence of light when it leaves. It could also refer to showing different versions of yourself depending on the situation.

I don’t know this song, but I only half understand it. I think that plenty of people can relate, but thats so sad. Not that it's sad to have more than one side to you, but sad that those versions would be created by people other than yourself.

I find this somewhat saddening. For our own entertainment, we watch as someone else cracks and breaks. Putting it in this context makes sense, and I believe that she is right. Taylor's analogy between a mirrorball and society is an accurate depiction of the reality of the world.

I took the mirror ball metaphor as how people just reflect others in society. Most people reflect their parents because they were raised by them, but people can also copy and mirror external sources. However, I do like Taylor's interpretation of the mirror ball. Of course she would have better in sight on how celebrities are mirror balls because she is a celebrity.

I can fully relate to this. Oftentimes, when I am put in the spotlight, I behave in one way, but upon exiting, I return to other behaviours. For example, when I am with my general squad of friends at BSHS, I speak with somewhat elaborate vocabulary, but when I went to states, I met a lot of new people, and in retrospect, my speech was not as complex. That is my experience with the mirrorball.
