         <description><![CDATA[<div>All the characters in the piano use different ways of communicating. Baines is illiterate but speaks Maori. Ada is mute but plays the piano. Flora is a mouthpiece for Ada. When she gives Alistair the message for Baines, communication becomes confusing and a source of conflict.</div>]]></description>

We see this reverse of power within the scenes where Ada takes advantage of him. He wishes to have the 'perfect' wife and fears that if he is too harsh he will push Ada further away.<br>Night=his feelings day= society's views</div>]]></description>
