    I agree with this. The reason I agree with this is because if you lie sometimes, and if it’s in the right scenario, it can protect someone or prevent them from getting hurt feelings. The pilot was trying to go back before they noticed. The Speaker said this to inform the people on what happens when you make a mistake. I think it's another way of brainwashing the people to think any mistakes are intolerable.

     | Jonas had been riding his bike when he saw the pilot fly past. It was a flashback of one year ago. Then the speaker told everyone to go inside and just leave their bikes where they were. Shortly after, the Speaker made that announcement.

     | The quote shows how tough their society is. Most mistakes mean severe punishment. It reveals how cold and not understanding people are in their community. Especially when Jonas thinks how there was an ironic tone to the way the Speaker said it. Apparently the Speaker thought it was amusing even though they knew that person's life was ruined.

     | I don't like how unforgiving the community is. Mistakes happen and you shouldn't have such severe punishments for stuff like that. The pilot knew he messed up and probably would've learned his lesson if he hadn't been released. That's like putting someone in prison for messing up on their first day of their new job.

It means the pilot will be banished in a way where he can't come back. It reveals the strict rules of their community and that there’s know room for mistakes. To me it means that it's pretty obvious that the pilot will be released and that the town is okay with it. I see it as a bad idea because you would be releasing everyone who makes a mistake and there is nothing that they can do about it. Most of the town knew that the pilot would be released when he flew over the town. Jonas may not have known this so that is why his dad said, “needless to say he will be released”.
    In other words, you can’t mess up. If you do the slightest thing wrong or you make the smallest mistake you get punished. The author is trying to make us see that this community is very strict and is the “perfect” place.This passage had a significant impact in my thinking about how the different their community is than ours. They will release someone if they accidently fly over their town. In our community if someone did that, if they aren’t lucky they might get a little slap on the wrist but certainly they wouldn’t be released. The quote is important because it tells the reader how their community works and how the citizens feel about it.

We can see this because in our world the pilot might have been fired as the worst possible consequence. In their world the pilot gets released which sounds like being evicted permanently from the community. Which could possibly mean killing him since the community has very little contact with anything outside the community, and he wouldn't have had anywhere to go besides the community that he was evicted from.

I think the author is trying to make us see, that the person who voices the speaker, and most likely the whole government of the community, are cruel and don’t care about the people they release. The man voicing the speaker even found it funny, that the pilot was getting released. It says in the book, “There was an ironic tone to that final message, as if the Speaker found it amusing; and Jonas had smiled a little, though he knew what a grim statement it had been." I think that it also shows how strict the community is.

IN this case a pilot will be killed because he made a wrong turn and went into their community which was not allowed. The person that said it was the announcer, although I don’t think he was the one that made the decision. In other words if a person maybe sped on  the freeway and got caught they would be killed instead of getting a ticket like normal. The author is trying to make us see that to show us how strict their community is and how many rules they have. This also makes me think that they are rude and are not educated well. This quote is important because it shows how strict they are and how many rules they have to not know why that plane went by. Some real world connections I can relate it to is that when we speed and get caught our punishment could be ranging from a reminder to a ticket, to a jail visit depending if you were wanted. We could also get other punishments if we do any other things that break the law.
