         <description><![CDATA[<div>i) Opportunities <br>With reduction of graded tests and exams, this creates more time for students to do more reflection and more time for Teachers to do formative assessment and more time to do markings to provide feedback to students to gauge and guide them along the way towards the EOY exams.<br><br>ii) Challenges <br>Students may switch off when they realise the assessments are non weighted and not counted towards their final year for promotion to the next level. Our students and parents are very practical and they may eventually stress their children to still study and prepare for the final year high weightage exams.<br><br>iii) Solutions </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1) Able to explore other types of assessment of learning that makes their thinking more visible and more qualitative, and questions which may not lead to right or wrong answers <br>E.g., recording videos of their thoughts, 2-step multiple choice, having them wrtie their observations <br>2) more time to implement more practical sessions to assess practical skills in students rather than teacher demo<br>3) more time to explore peer feedback <br><br>Challenges<br>1) students will not take the assessment seriously and will not out in effort <br>2) parents are worried how the school will show that the child is learning <br>3) parents may turn to tuition to know how well their child do<br>4) quantitative assessment of learning may also take more time (more time than the freed up time given to us) so teachers need to be selective of how many and type of assessment of learning to conduct <br><br>Solutions <br>1) make their non weighted assessment results available to parents <br>2) need to emphasis clear expectations from beginning of the year - that every task is a reflection if learning<br>3) communicate to parents how each different department will conduct their non-weighted assessment and how parents will be kept informed of their child learning.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>What I think SBA would look like.<br><br>SBA is a good initiative to reduce the workload of teachers and students in order to increase the joy of learning. While their are trade offs and potential pit falls of the system, the benefits simply cannot be ignored and are worth the trade offs being made. <br><br>SBA in school should give students and teachers more time to focus on the skills that are taught through the various disciplines that the students undertake. For example science teaches scientific inquiry and data driven conclusions. The ‘white space’ created should be filled with authentic learning activities so that the students are truly able to achieve the joy of learning.<br><br>On the other side of the coin, teachers need to be given top down support in order to implement the changes made. There needs to be a consistent tone and message from the ministry to the parents and the children on the merits of the new system and the importance of self-ownership of learning so that the benefits can be fully reaped.</div>]]></description>

         <title>SBA for 2019 and beyond must be made known right from the beginning to students and their parents especially the components, NWA and Assessment that counts and to emphasise using the careful selection of words in letters, PTMs, town hall meetings that the SBA weightage is as such, with emphasis on joy of learning as a process but bearing in mind the need to strike a good balance and also work towards the need to translate what they have learnt into the year end exams with higher weightage. This has to be made known especially to parents so the child will understand the entire environment they are in (in school and after sch)</title>
