         <description><![CDATA[<div>Mercenaries are professional soldiers who is paid to fight for another country or group.  Aztecs were considered crude barbarians but they were strong warriors. The tepanecs employed them as mercenaries. For things such as land trade connections and wealth. The mercenaries helped the aztecs defeat the tepanecs.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Tenochtitlan </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Tenochtitlan was the capitol city of the Aztec empire. Tenochtitlan contributed to the rise of the Aztecs because as the Aztecs grew so did their town. Tenochtitlan grew into one of the largest cities in the world. Due to this lots of people lived there 200,000 and 300,000 people at  the center of the city was a large ceremonial plaza Here, the Aztecs gathered for religious rituals, feasts, and festivals. Three causeways linked the island to the mainland. The longest of them stretched five miles. The causeways were 25 to 30 feet wide. They all had wooden bridges that could be raised to let boats through or to protect the city in an enemy attack.&nbsp; Aqueducts carried water fro irrigation.<br><br></div>]]></description>
