Society tells me what I can and can't be. But should I listen? NO! Transcendentalists argue that society has a pre-made path for your life: school, college, career, marriage, kids, then death. We as human beings have a choice to follow this so-called "way of life". Although everybody says that its wrong to be different, it is up to you to be your own person and not conform to the rules of the world.

Whenever I hear this song, it always makes me want to drop everything and go fulfill my wildest dreams. The line "I'll see you when you get there" shows that each person has a different timing for when they find who they truly are. Transcendentalists believe that concentrating on the present is necessary to live successfully. Often times girls become completely different people when around someone they want to impress. This song specifies the fact that most people have two sides to their personality: one that they show to the world, and one that they keep deep inside to themselves. Transcendentalists believe that is important to show your true self and "the other side" of you in order to share your opinions and beliefs, so you can be different from the rest of the crowd.

However, I do feel as though this picture does have some relevance to transcendentalist ideals. It is a drawing of me and my Dad, not holding hands, but separated by nature. A point I can pull from my artwork is that I was a very self-sufficient person when I was younger and enjoyed the company and compassion of my Dad. However, I didn't let it stop me from being my strong, independent self.
