This is the first book to give me the feels, as a kid. It was both exhilarating and terrifying to read! How adventurous and cheeky Max, the main character, was! He gets sent to his room for being naughty, only to leave on his own, on an adventure that takes him to a new land to meet new creatures who are WILD and CRAZY! It was all too much and the book terrified me for years. So I read it again and again. Now as an adult I realize why it scared me so much. Life is full of adventures, big and small, scary and fun, and everything in between, but we have to leave what we know, if we want to discover and grow!
