On one end the film contains many of the elements of the traditional Western: cowboys, horses, saloons, and the conflict between sheriffs and "outlaws," as the main character is a sheriff who goes against a group of outlaws. Through the story, he embarks on this personal journey, which portrays the idea of individualism/ that is often associated with the West. 
I think in a different light, the movie also shows the struggles Kane faces in the West. But it's the way these elements are blended together, that put a slight spin put on the film.

Through watching the movies in class, it seems to me that a western is usually a personal journey, in each story the main characters' journey/fight is very unique to them. 

The perception of the West, particularly in pop culture and media, seems to be rooted in myth-making and we see many romanticized portrayals of the region as a rugged, independent, and self-sufficient frontier. The main character Bill is shown as a righteous figure throughout the story. Even though he is destroying the land around him, they don't make him out to be a villain. In the story, they're juxtaposing a pretty grim theme with comedic characters/situations, then violence appears when it’s least expected. It also taps into anxieties about modernization and the loss of traditional values.

The Spaghetti-western genre is characterized by a distinct visual style and storytelling approach. Compared to classic Western films, Spaghetti-westerns seem to be more violent and show more, morally ambiguous characters. They also tend to have more stylized cinematography, with close-ups, wide shots, and extreme angles used to heighten the drama and tension.
