Re-hire Madame Ellis by Kathleen Ellis

Bonjour! This Padlet is for anyone who wants to share their experiences with Madame Ellis and explain the contributions that she's made to the HHS community, why the World Language department needs her, and why she and other teachers should be supported in advocating for a better education system, especially in the context of a national teacher shortage. Feel free to share in whatever format you prefer: writing, video, or link to an external file (letter, classwork, artwork, or anything else!) If you link to something, please write a short description in your post.

The dearly beloved Madame Ellis,

To all who shall feast their eyes upon this, I wish to for your eyes to behold the solemn truth of Madame Ellis. I earnestly say as a student of a fanciful and wandering mind, I seldom find myself requiring the means to a fascinating environment to encircle me within her classroom. She compells the mind to delve into knowledge that treads the unknown! She enlightened me of diverse cultures and on special occasions like birthdays, Eid, Christmas, etc. students are elated to arrive to know she will have an itinerary for our adolescent selves to be occupied by!! She is positively and fairly lenient with her educational practices and class regulations! She frequently abides communicational sequences within our courses and ensures (or suggests) fathomable interactions to be made in the classroom. In spite of what she does for the cohesive majority, a vast salute of my own desirable gratitude is disposed from the origination of the colloquies I can entrust to her with an impeccable ease. I can fervidly be who I longed to and bestow valuable information to her that I overzealously initiate because she gives me a motherly comfort. Seldom have I found a teacher so comprehensive yet permeated.
I humbly thank you Madame Ellis and as fervid as this memorandum may have approached you, the intimation is (hopefully) not reticent and apparent to those with the heart to aid Madame Ellis and others in the conquest to salvage her occupation. We shall not fall on our swords now for we have much awaiting us; tread warily and never cease or waver your lionheartedness!

Madame Ellis being fired will only do more harm. You can tell that she is actually passionate about what she teaches about! She has done a lot for the French program at Hightstown High School. Everyday in French she teaches in a way that actually helps students understand French a lot more. I really like how she actually makes the class a French speaking environment and doesn't just give us textbook pages to read off of, I learned a lot more French because of her. She's very kind to every student and actually motivates us to learn French through different activities. She also runs the French Club which helps strengthen the French Program at HHS and shows she actually cares about what she teaches. It wouldn't be fair to fire Madame Ellis, not only to the French program but also to the students and Madame Ellis herself, whose worked very hard within the French program at the school.

Ms. Ellis is a one revolutionary teacher in Hightstown Highschool. She is overqualified for this job and she still chooses to advocate for her job here because of her contribution and love for her students. She doesn’t deserve to get fired, she is human and have made mistakes but why do we take the risk of getting rid of a quality teacher for lame reasons? Her mistakes does not affect the learning of us students, and that is what should mostly matter! I have learned so much from Ms. Ellis, and hope that she stays here at HHS, otherwise we will be in big trouble.

Madame Ellis is one of 2 French teachers at HHS. She is beloved in the students and staffs hearts. She has a natural wonderful teaching style that makes it easy for all to learn in her presence. She is a super kind hearted and fun person. The other French teacher at HHS is annoying, rude, and rather disrespectful. Not to mention Madame Nelson is retiring, now Madame Ellis is being fired. There is a teacher shortage in general, but French Teachers are going to be a pain to find. In reality we would be loosing a great teacher for no reason and just causing ourselves more trouble trying to find a replacement.

Her kindhearted nature and positive attitude already makes her a wonderful teacher, something that is quite rare to find in a teacher. Her positive nature keeps students motivated and feel loved as an individual. Making her leave permanently would be a major detriment to HHS and its language course overall.

Of course I don't speak it so fluently now, but I do understand almost every sentence she speaks. And as someone who has a hard time learning and adjusting to something so new, that's a big step. She made it easier on me, and I hope she continues to teach at this school to help other slow learners like me to pick up the pace.

The fact that I am here writing this message, not even being a student of Madame Ellis, is surprising to me . I was never taught by Madame Ellis, but I had heard many, many, great things about her. And that is why I am here, asking whoever is in charge, to please bring her back for the next year!! Many students had told me about this news, and that just shows how she really did do her job. I've never actually seen students so...willing, to help out their fellow teacher. Madame Ellis has found ways to connect with her students and create a comfortable environment for them. Just seeing all these people, writing on this website for HER..She really made the learning experience for her students this year wonderful. And those kids want the same type of experience for the students coming in the next year. This just proves that the kids really NEED her, and so will the ones she will hopefully receive next year

Madame Ellis was my teacher when I was in undergrad at Rutgers University. She taught me a great deal of French at the Paris program. She has a way of not only teaching but creating a safe environment to learn and express yourself. She connects with her students at an individual level personalizing her approach to meet their needs. It was be a tremendous loss for her students and for East Windsor to lose such a talented and committed teacher. Madame Ellis is passionate about what she teaches and strives to make learning fun for her students. She consistently goes above and beyond for her students - often staying late to help out with clubs and spending weekends planning fun activities for her classes. She is a fantastic teacher and the school would be doing the students a tremendous disservice by letting her go. If you care about the language education of your students I urge you to reconsider. Madame Ellis is truly a one of a kind teacher

In middle school, I never enjoyed French and learned it because it was simply apart of the curriculum. But when I got to high school my sophomore year and had mme ellis as my teacher, I noticed how much she cared about her students and how she went out of her way to make sure everyone understands the subjects being taught. She learns about all of her students on a personal level, aware of each student's personality and learning style in order to assist them better. She has helped me with my spelling and vocabulary, and her do nows and conversation assignments have helped me improve so much this past year. I had only wanted to AP French my senior year if it meant that I was able to have her as my teacher again and experience her one more time before graduating. This disappoints me so much that there might not be a french program next year, or AP French. She truly cares about her students and her work, making sure to always come up with new and exciting activities to do. She also always takes the advice and criticism all her students discuss and talk about whenever we give her feedback. She is one of the only teachers I feel comfortable with, allowing me to actually learn and grow in her class. By cutting her off and firing her, Highstown will only be losing another good teacher, despite there already being a teacher shortage. If Highstown can afford to have more than 2 Spanish teachers, they can afford to keep one really good french teacher.

I met Kathleen in 2018 at Rutgers during our PhDs. She immediately became my teaching mentor and she was the French Department's favorite instructor. Kathleen is passionate about students' learning and makes it her mission to give them the most up-to-date, diverse, efficient and analytical instruction. She is incredibly intelligent and hard working. She possesses a rare dedication and sense of justice. HHS was lucky to count Kathleen among its work force. The school administration is sure to count its losses by deciding to turn against Kathleen out of spite and to use her to intimidate the others instructors. Kathleen is a brilliant and intuitive teacher, guide, and advocate of her students who unfortunately found herself in a toxic workplace. Shame on the HHS administration.
