The pony express is a trail that goes through 8 different states and is 1,800 miles long, going from Missouri to California. There were many reasons why people traveled the pony express. Some of the reasons are to get a fresh start, make money to support your family or even trying to run from legal issues. People traveled this long route on horseback and even took 10 days to travel. The pony express is still open to this day to visit and many do. It is also now a National Park and is protected by the National Park Service. I picked this amendment because  the pony express was the original way to travel long distances to the west. This was a huge part in US history as it gave many new opportunities for people.

Yellowstone national park was created and established on march 1, 1872 by Ulysses S.Grant. According to loc.gov, the act was officially titled “an act to set apart a certain tract of land lying near the head waters of the Yellowstone River as a public park.” Yellowstone was the United States first ever National park. The United States now has 423 National parks. Grant wanted to protect more than 2 million acres of land for the future generations to enjoy and explore. I picked this topic because it was the first national park and because I want to travel there in my lifetime. Yellowstone started the national parks and I believe they are each very unique.

The battle of Little Bighorn happened because the second treaty of fort laramie was broken. This treaty was that the US government did not give the land they were supposed to give to the Lakota and Dakota. George Custer was a US military commander and was the commander for this battle. He is known for this battle being his last strand. He ended up losing the battle because he made many errors that shouldn’t have happened. He was acting alone and forced his men through the mountains where he should have taken them around. I picked this event in US history because I believed it was interesting that Commander Custer was the main reason why the US military lost. It shows how important it really is to have a good leader.

Thomas Edison officially invented and patented the lightbulb on January 27, 1880. The historical patent number for Edison’s lamp was 223, 898. This invention paved the way for the future of lighting everywhere around the world. Edison also has more than 1,000 other patents to his name. He has had his hand in others like the movie camera, microphone, phonograph and more. I chose this topic because I believe it is a very important event in US history because of how many lights are used in today's world. There are light bulbs all around you and Thomas Edison is a huge reason why.
