         <description><![CDATA[<div>   Max Weber (1864-1920) was a German sociologist, economist, and professor.  Weber proposed the theory called principle of bureaucracy.  This theory was related to an organizational structure.  Per Weber, bureaucracy is the formal system of organization and administration designed to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.  He suggested an ideal model for management as bureaucratic approach.  He, in the book the theory of social and economic organizations, explained the basic principles of bureaucracy.  He gave emphasis on division of labor, hierarchy, detailed rules, and impersonal relations.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>       Weber's theories on bureaucracy included topics such as:</div><ul><li>      expert knowledge of the work force,</li><li>      the merit system, rewards and promotions based on work performance,</li><li>      standardized rules,</li><li>      structure and hierarchy in the workplace.  </li></ul><div>      In his writings, Weber focused on the idea of a bureaucracy.  This is different from a traditional managerial organization because impersonal, rule-based activities and workers were promoted based on merit and performance rather than on immeasurable attributes.  Weber’s bureaucracy is also characterized by a hierarchical organization, concise lines of authority in a fixed area of activity, action taken based on written rules, and administrative officials needing professional training.  Weber did not see any alternative to bureaucracy, and predicted this would lead to an "iron cage," or a situation in which people would not be able to avoid bureaucracy, and society would thus become increasingly more rational. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Some criticisms regarding a Bureaucratic Organization in the school system are, there is to much emphasis on rules and regulations because they are too rigid and inflexible.  Bureaucracy involves a lot of paper work and waste of time, all to save money.  Also, there is no importance given to informal groups and there is an unnecessary delay in decision-making due to formalities and rules.<br><br></div>]]></description>
