Methane gas is stored in crystalline ice structures stored below the surface of the Earth. These structures can stay stable under harsh conditions such as weather, and constant pressure changes below the surface. These structures release methane gas into the oceans to regulate methane levels in the ocean. If the levels get to high the structures will not release anymore, but if they are too low the structures will release again. Methane is essential for life in the ocean.
Citation:Sediments control methane release to the ocean

Sediments control methane release to the ocean. The Russian authorities are investigating to find out why it turned red. Russia's Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment believe that the river may have turned red due to discharge from a chemical from the nearby Nadezhda Metallurgical Plant. The plant produces nickel and has caused the river to change color before.

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/08/160824212223.htm
Scientists have used historical records and climate simulations to examine snowfall trends in Antarctica. They found that the effect of rising temperatures on snowfall has so far been overshadowed by Antarctica's large natural climate variability, which comes from random, chaotic variations in the polar weather. By mid-century, however, as temperatures continue to rise, the study shows how the effect of human-induced warming on Antarctica's net snow accumulation should emerge above the noise.
