Positive Impacts

1. Improved Access to Patient Records

- Easy access to patient information can lead to faster and accurate diagnosis. Additionally, having easy access to patient records can improve communication between healthcare providers and patients, as well as between different departments within a hospital.

2. Cost Savings

- By streamlining processes and reducing paper waste, hospitals can save money on administrative costs and by reducing errors, such as duplicate tests or treatments, hospitals can save money and improve patient care. Making patient data more accessible, it can reduce the time and resources needed to track down information which can also lead to cost savings.

3. Enhanced Security and Privacy

- Electronic records can be encrypted making it much harder for unauthorised individuals to access sensitive information and they can be protected with a variety of other security measures, such as two-factor authentication and access control. Digitizing records will allow hospitals to create an audit trail of who accessed which records, which can help to identify any potential breaches or misuse of data.

4. Reduced Redundancy

- Manual record-keeping can be time consuming and error-prone, leading to delays in patient care and potentially negative health outcomes. By digitizing records, hospitals can automate many administrative tasks such as order entry and billing. This can lead to a significant reduction in redundancy and a corresponding increase in efficiency.

5. Enhanced Collaboration

- Converting documents can improve communication and collaboration between healthcare and providers, both within hospitals and across the healthcare system as a whole. And this can lead to more holistic care plans for patients with multiple providers able to access and contribute to a patient's records. It can also facilitate collaboration with other stakeholders, such as insurance providers and government agencies.

Drawbacks

1. Initial Costs

-Initial costs associated with digitizing hospital records may include the cost of hardware and software, training for staff, and the development of new processes and workflows.

2. Transition Period

- A transition period can be considered drawback because it can take time and effort to implement the new system and get everyone on board. It can also cause some disruption to the normal flow of work, as staff members are learning how to use the new system. This can lead to a temporary decrease in productivity and efficiency, as well as frustration for staff.

3. Workflow Disruptions

-workflow disruptions can cause delays in patient care. And if a hospital is switching form paper to electronic records, there may be a period of time when some records are still on paper, and others are digital. This can cause confusion and errors, as well as wasted time spent searching for records.

4. Data Security Risks

- Data security risks are a major drawback to digitizing hospital records. If patient data is compromised, it could damage the hospital's reputation and lead to lawsuits. Even if there is no data breach, there is always the risk that sensitive patient information could accidentally be released or viewed by unauthorized individuals. And this could lead to privacy concerns and a loss of trust in the hospital.

5. Vendor lock-in

- Vendor lock-in can limit the hospital's options in the future. If a hospital's digital records are stored using proprietary software of which is a software that is owned and controlled by a company, it may be difficult or impossible to switch to a different system later on.

Managing Drawbacks

1. Initial Costs

- Have Financial Planning

- Seek funding from grants and other sources

2. Transition Period

- It's important to have a clear plan and dedicated team, as well as to provide training and support for staff

3. Workflow Disruptions

- Workflow Analysis

~ it's important to analyse existing workflows and adapt them to the new system.

- Customization and Training

4. Data Security Risks

- Conduct regular audits and risk assessments

- Have robust security measures in place

- Utilize encryption and other secure technologies

5. Vendor lock-in

- Use open standards and open-source software, which can make it easier to switch to a different vendor if needed.

References

.
IP Protection for Software Systems

New software development costs huge budgets, human resources, and time, and therefore to have more control over who can use it and how it is distributed to the public, it must be treated as an intellectual property (IP). If Software systems are not treated as intellectual property by individuals, start-ups, and companies, then anyone may use it without authorization. Software intellectual property can be secured in several ways, including through software patents and copyright, more on these methods will be considered for our software system.

Copyright

In south Africa, software is automatically protected by copyright law once it is generated in a fixed form. This means that copyright begins the moment a code is written or a software program is developed. Copyright grants the developer exclusive right to reproduce, distribute, and adapt their program. However, copyright protection can be strengthened by registering the company or the software with South Africa's Companies and Intellectual Property (CIPC). Registering the software to copyright protect it is not required by law, although it might serve as evidence in the even of copyright infringement. It also important to document all inventive processes throughout the development.

Trade Secrets

Important part of the software system such as the algorithms, technical processes and proprietary techniques will be kept confidential. All personnel, including third parties that may require access or may have contributed to the development of this components or of the system as a whole will be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDAs). Hence, protecting against possible reproduction or public distribution of the system.

Contracts and Licensing

Apart from the traditional protection provided by the South African Copyright Act and South African Patent Act, other forms of protection for computer related inventions will be considered, Escrow agreements in particular. Escrow agreements is entered by the provider of the software, the acquirer of the software and the independent third party. Important components of the software are then entrusted to the independent third party which they release or give access to under strictly predefined conditions.

Licensing agreements will also be included to safekeep the IP. These agreements define how the software can be used, distributed, and modified. They often include provisions for protecting IP rights and prohibiting unauthorized use and distribution.

Enforcement

Regardless of the method used to protect software IP, enforcing those rights is of utmost importance. This will involve monitoring for infringement, sending cease-and-desist letters, and taking legal action against infringers when necessary.

References

Software Patents Intellectual Property.

1. Problems encountered in South Africa are many, more specifically within the government. Filling in patient health data manually in the public health sector has proved to be both time-consuming and it lacks efficiency. This has been shown in an article(Graham Wright, 2017). With that issue having been observed, we have come to the realization that the use of technology/ICT can help counter the problem of using paper-based files to record patient health data. To address this issue at hand, we have decided to come up with a more efficient way of doing the recording of which involves digitizing the records by means of recording, storing, and accessing patient-health data electronically. The creation of a patient database accessible through a user-friendly application that we will implement, is our strategy to solve the challenge.

The application consists of features like data security, backup systems in place, entering of data digitally, a robust search and retrieval functionality, offline access and a feature that shows any kind of changes made to a patient-file by an authorized healthcare worker in order to maximize accountability. Our solution is going to improve the management of patient health data and will elevate the patient care standard. By doing all of this, we aim to tackle the prevailing challenges faced in the South African public health sector.

References

Graham, Wrigt, D. O. (2017).

Social Media Marketing and Influencer Marketing.

Social Media is one of the biggest tools used to connect people, most especially students and using this tool allow direct customer interaction which is beneficial to any business. Benefits such as seeing what people are saying about your services and keeping an eye to competition are a requirement for small businesses such as this one. Using social media can increase sales by creating more leads to the website that in turn will make the business to be well known.

Influencers have become the pillars of social media and having a helping hand from them can give the business a great exposure. When it comes to affiliate marketing the risk is low compared to reward meaning it has a high return on investment. Impact state that the number one fact that is pushing people into affiliate marketing is low start up cost because instead of having members joining in for advertisement your affiliate can come up with the content that is marketing the service.

Relationship management

A document such as a contract is needed to bind and specify the order of the relationship. This types of documents keep both parties to their initial commitment and help so that the plan does not deviate from what was originally agreed upon . The individuals in the contract are subjected to treat each other with respect and neither party will take advantage of the other. One of the key components to the relationship is communication and it include clarification of vital expectations between parties involves as well as addressing the concerns that may occur when the project is in progress. Communication keeps a mutual understanding between parties and changes can easily be carried out if all parties agree on them. Disciplinary hearing and quality of standard also need to be taken into consideration during initial communications.

References:

Getfused(Apr 04,2024) Available at: https://www.getfused.com/blog/how-important-is-social-media-marketing-for-small-businesses/

Impact (Jun 05, 2023) .
