Segregation is an act of separating someone or something. The most important topic was racial segregation. For example, Plessy v. Ferguson. It was a court case back in 1896 where an African American by the name of Homer Plessy refused to sit in a car meant for blacks in 1892. A belief was made during this case known as "separate but equal". As long as they were equal it didn't matter if they were separated. Overall, the court didn't think that segregation wasn't discrimination against African Americans, so it became a law in the United States.

The labor reform movement grew for the need to protect interest of the workers. Upton Sinclair was a muckraker who wrote the book the jungle to expose working conditions in meat packaging but instead it turned into be more about the meat conditions and how bad they were . It relates to labor reforms because of how the book was originally meant to show. But after he released it was quickly misunderstood from been about the work conditions.
