Main aim of the housing scheme is to improve quality of life and quality of greenery in developing cities. The building tries to make sure plants aren’t limited to ground level with green planters taking up its entire front and back facade.

The planters protect from weather conditions, add privacy to the home, aesthetically pleasing.

The home is mainly open plan with minimal partions and includes a courtyard to promote air circulation.

Plants are maintained by automatic irrigation pipes inside the planters that utilise rainwater.

-       Two walls consist entirely of cantilevered concrete planters

-       Automatic irrigation pipes are in place to water plants and provide easy maintenance

-       The name Stacking Green refers to its façade filled with “vital and vigorous greenery”

-       Compromised of an RC frame structure-widely used in Vietnam

-       Few partition walls to allow interior fluency and allow the green facades to be seen from every point in the house-also guarantees air circulation

-       Green façade and rooftop gardens protect residents from direct sunlight, street noise and pollution-greenery protects interior from winds

-       The two facades are completed by stacking 25 jardinières built with reinforced concrete and arranged with a separation pattern ranging from 25-40cm depending on what plant is in them

-       Natural ventilation through the facades allow for saving of energy-energy bill is roughly 20 euros per month

-       Natural daylighting and ventilation systems are invaluable in Vietnam-region experiences heavy rain and high temperatures, as well as day long power shortages

-       House was designed with vietnams “continuous hot summer” in mind rather than the architectural styles of western countries

This case study follows housing units in Trignac, France. The architects main goal was to create “quality housing at low cost” also ensuring the units were energy efficient.

The buildings structures follow a simple column and bean structure that’s made from concrete and galvanised steel. Clear polycarbonate is then used to give the building its ‘greenhouse’ effect. Any of the facades surfaces that aren’t clear are coved in a natural aluminium

Central somers town, Adam Khan

Location: London, near King’s Cross

This community children’s play project was established in the 1970s. It was designed my Adam Khan Architects.

The aim of this project was to provide community facilities in one of Camden’s most deprived areas.

The materials they used was brick mostly along with concrete and red metalwork. Its overall design consists of arched walls.

To provide privacy the children’s centre has been built between two play areas, consisting of arched shopfront kind of windows where the children’s work can be displayed but also protects their privacy.

The Ronald Mcdonald House in Sankt Augustin was built to feel more like a home than a hospital building. This was a goal to illuminate the hospital experience for both the children and the parents and instead make it close by but still have some comfort and a normal life. As each family has their own small apartment for privacy, there are also kitchens, play areas and living rooms where people can meet and support each other, so in order to not feel trapped in a clinic atmosphere, the building is surrounded with nature and the architects ensured that every apartment receives natural light. This building was also designed to be very energy - efficient and long lasting as running costs stay low and families can stay affordably and even receive help through donations. The main goal is quite simple, as it aims to create a safe warm space that makes a tough time a little easier which shows how designs can ease people's stress and bring them together.

The brief was formulated between the future occupants and the architect.
