A lot of citizens thought and believed that the only way they could fulfill its promise to promote liberty and equality for slaves all around the country. This movement began during the revolutionary era. Blacks in this time were segregated from whites. A famous abolitionists an escaped slave named Frederick Douglass had a huge impact in putting an end for slavery in the US. Later in 1847 Frederick Douglass became a writer and started his own anti slavery newspaper The North Star. People like William Lloyd Garrison had huge impacts to William was a Vocal abolitionist and publisher of the newspaper The Liberator. Both of them were infuriated by this and wanted to make a change to it. Women back then were not allowed to do certain things they had very few rights. They could not vote or hold office any wages they earned belonged to their husbands and property they had as single woman became their husbands. The seneca falls convention demanded equality for all women at work, school, church, and voting booth. Other people like Susan B. Anthony and Lucy Stone slowly reformers for women's rights made progress. New York passed laws allowing women to keep property and wages.
