The movie shows multiple different character archetypes. First, Harry Potter is the hero. This is because Harry shows bravery, risked his life for the sake of his school, and he defeats the shadow temporarily. Next, Voldemort is the shadow. He embodies this role because he is the enemy of the hero, he is extremely powerful and dangerous, and he tries to kill and attack the hero. The mentors, Hagrid and Dumbledore showed Harry great wisdom, they gave him advice, and they protected Harry from the shadow. Next, Harry's uncle, Fluffy, the vines, the chess game, and the flying keys were all threshold guardians. They all stood in the hero's way during very important times. The hero has many allies. They are Hermione, Ron, and Hagrid. They fought for the hero, helped the hero when in dire need, and are devoted to the hero. Second to last, Professor McGonagall is the shapeshifter. She can change her shape and appearance and she helps move the plot forward. Finally, Hagrid's dragon egg is the Herold in the movie. This is because the egg acts as a sign of change and helps develop the plot.

Stage 1: Ordinary World

In this stage, Harry Potter is living in the storage closet underneath the stairs in his aunt and uncle's house. Strange things begin to happen wherever Harry went.

Stage 2: Call to Adventure

Next, letters are being delivered by owls to the house Harry is living in. These letters are invitations to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Stage 3: Refusal of the Call

With the letters continuing to show up, Harry's uncle is destroying all of the letters to keep Harry from reading them. Despite his efforts, the owls still continued to send the letters into every space they could get in the house

Stage 4: Meeting with the Mentor

During this stage, Hagrid breaks down the door of the lighthouse Harry and his aunt, uncle, and cousin are staying in. He gives Harry a cake for his 11th birthday and one of the invitation letters.

Stage 5: Crossing the Threshold

After leaving the lighthouse, Hagrid takes Harry to Diagon Alley to pick up Harry's necessary supplies for Hogwarts. Harry finds out that his parents left him money in a vault at the bank and they use this money to pay for the supplies. After this, Harry makes his way to platform 9 3/4 and gets on the Hogwarts express to ride to the school.

Stage 6: Allies, Trials, and Enemies

In this next stage, Harry meets Hermione and Ron on the train to Hogwarts. Once they arrive, they figure out that there is a secret trapdoor under Fluffy. After they breach the trapdoor, Hermione uses her quick thinking and knowledge to save Ron from the vines. After they escape the vines, Harry uses his experience being a seeker in Quidditch to catch a key to unlock the door. After the door unlocks, Ron has to play a real version of wizard chess to help Harry continue on.

Stage 7: Approach to the Inmost Cave

After walking through the last door, Harry finds Professor Quirrell standing in front of the Mirror of Erised. Since Harry had thought that Professor Snape was trying to steal the stone, he was surprised to find that it was Professor Quirrell. Professor Quirrell removed his head wrap and showed Harry the Voldemort lived on the back of his head.

Stage 8: The Supreme Ordeal

Soon after, Harry gets trapped by Voldemort and is surrounded by fire. While Harry looks in the mirror, Voldemort asks Harry for the stone. When Harry refuses, Professor Quirrell starts choking him. When Harry touches him, he begins to burn and crack until he dies.

Stage 9: Reward

After Harry defeated the professor, he had retrieved the stone. But he was soon knocked unconscious by a rouge soul.

Stage 10: The Road Back

Because Harry was knocked unconscious, there is no Road Back. The story follows Harry because he is the main character, so the movie just skips to the next stage because there is nothing really important to follow when he is out.

Stage 11: Resurrection

When Harry wakes up, he is in the hospital area of Hogwarts. Dumbledore comes in and tells him that the stone has been destroyed, although Harry continues to ask questions about his friends and the stone.

Stage 12: Return with the Prize

After Harry's recovery, he and all of the other wizards were boarding the train to ride back to Harry's Ordinary World. Harry goes to say goodbye to Hagrid and is given a memory book of him and his parents.
