This video is specially based on our Luigi Jazz amalgamation, which is our kicks exercise. During this exercise we are taught correct alignment, core strength, balance and how to execute correct extension. Watching myself in the mirrors in the studios during class time it has become apparent that my left leg extension is not to the same standard as my right leg extension, this is due to my hamstrings feeling tighter than they should. I am in the process of improving this by stretching my hamstrings more during classes and spare time. I feel that my alignment has improved during my second year training, I have focused a lot on my alignment as well as my posture as I came from a freestyle background previously, before attending Shockout. When I started my training at Shockout I realised my arms were hyper mobile and would often slip past second position. When starting second year I told myself this was going to be one of my main focuses. This video shows to me personally that this weakness of mine has in fact improved since starting my training at Shockout as a first year.

This particular video is based on ‘Commercial’ choreography. This particular choreography was taught to us by emer walsh, one of our Commercial teachers at Shockout. Emer Walsh, in my opinion has an old school hip hop/commercial vibe to her choreography, in which she also adds feminine elements to her choreography aswell. I personally feel this choreography is similar to something Dean Lee would create. Sexy and groovy but also strong and clean, Dean Lee choreography and Emer Walsh choreography are personally some of my favourite choreographers in terms of their execution and style. Whilst critically analysing myself throughout this video I came to the conclusion that I need to work on my cleanliness and my lines to make my performance stronger. I need to focus on mimicking exactly what the choreographer does and making it work within my body. I feel my attack, in terms of executing the choreography is a strong element of mine. The problem is that this can sometimes make my choreography look messy and un tidy. My focus for over summer break, leading on to third year is to really focus on details when taught choreography to ensure I am more imployable to choreographers and casting directors. I will achieve this by focusing more in class at what I am being asked to do, also by practising in my spare time, with constant repetition so the choreography becomes second nature within my body.

The choreography in this particular video is Bob Fossee style, with sharp minimal movements combined with Technical Jazz. This choreography was taught to us by one of our Jazz teachers at Shockout, Daniel Lauder. This particular piece was created for one of our assessments in which we have been set into two casts, red and blue with number opposites and set spacing. Generally, I like Bob Fossee’s style of movement, for me personally it helps with my lines and cleanliness as the movements he is known for are mostly minimal and introvert. Observing myself through this video I can understand that the overall thing I need to work and focus on during my training is my cleanliness and my lines. Ensuring I am executing the steps exactly how the choreographer has taught them to me. I personally feel Jazz is my strongest genre throughout dance, mainly as it relates more to freestyle dancing than any other genre in terms of how quick paced Jazz is, also how much freedom is encouraged and allowed in terms of performance. Although, this can also allow me to get too ahead of myself and sometimes lose control of my technique, and again, look messy and un-tidy. As discussed in other videos I will be taking time to really focus on this throughout the summer break, leading up to third year as this is my last year before I graduate. In which I must start making all my faults and errors within dance become a minimal.

During this video our Jazz class are being taught a pireouette amalgamation from the Luigi technique. This sequence has many things to think about as a dancer, direction change, posture, pulling up, spotting. The Luigi technique really does improve a dancers Pirrouette as he teaches his students the importance of pulling up the legs whilst executing a pirouette. I’ve always been a slight natural turner, but never had the technique behind me to execute one properly. Mr Needham's Jazz classes especially have helped me understand what I should be thinking about, as well as what my body should be feeling whilst executing these amalgamations. Watching myself in front of the mirror whilst performing this exercise, I understand that my leg placement is not always where it should be, my retire is not always as high as it should be and my posture is not always correct. Specially I have noticed that when I execute en dedan Pirouette turn my leg automatically does a fouetté even if this is not what the step is. Furthermore, in relation to my other videos I need to focus on detail in classes, specifically what the choreographer has told me to do.
