I thought it meant a ugly person because in the quote Percy Jackson explained ugly feature about Nancy Bobfit.

The Myth is called Furies.

When Percy Jackson talks back to Mrs. Dodd's she gets mad and turns into a Furies and then Percy Jackson kills her with a sword and never gets mentioned again. Mrs Dodds had huge wing and could fly.

Furies are ancient Greek goddesses. The are very ugly and have huge wings.They usually murder people who do something wrong or someone they do not like at all.

"Not Mr. Brunner, the ex-Mr. Brunner said, I'm afraid that was a pseudonym. You may call me Chiron." (pg 64)

Pseudonym: a fictitious name often in books.

I thought it meant not true or false because Mr. Burner said the quote like his name was a lie.

The Myth is called a Wood Nymph.

A wood nymph is a myth. It gets mentioned when Mr. D talks about his father and actually seeing a wood nymph. When Percy Jackson hears Mr. D mention a wood nymph he is shocked.

A Wood Nymph is an ancient spirit that belongs in a forest. It is a green beautiful goddess that looks like a butterfly. They are usually linked to a tree.

" That's Mr. D, Grover murmured to me. He's the camp director." (pg 62) " Mr. D was a stranger to alcohol." (pg 63)

Mr. D is the camp director and he loves wine. He is very grumpy and loves starting madness.

"Over the doorway was one of those doctor's symbols, a winged pole with two snakes wrapped around it. What did they call it...? A caduceus." (pg 83)

Caduceus means: the symbolic staff of a herald.

I thought Caduceus meant something apart from your body like your guts.

The Myth is called The Underworld.

The Underworld is a myth and a legend. It gets mentioned when Percy Jackson wanders to Chiron about it. Percy Jackson was very clueless and did not really understand.

The Underworld is a place deep down under the world. People go there when they are dead but there souls are alive.

"Clarisse, Annabeth sighed. Why don't you go polish your spear or something."(pg 89)

Clarisse is the daughter of Ares. She loves to fight and she is not always nice to people only her friends.

The Myth is called Naiads.

Annabeth warned Percy Jackson about Naiads when Percy waved at them. Annabeth says they are big flirts .

Naiad are beautiful women who live in the water, waterfalls, rivers, and lakes. They are huge flirts but they are not good at it.

" Luke approached the fire, bowled his head, and tossed in a cluster of a fat red grape, Hermes."(pg 105)

Luke is the son of Hermes. He has a huge scare on his face. he is really nice to Percy Jackson. He is one of the counselors at Camp half blood. Percy Jackson really like Luke.

" Clarisse and her buddies ran in with another banner, of identical size, but Gaudy red, painted with a bloody spear and a boar's head." (pg 116)

Gaudy means: ostentatiously or tastelessly ornamented.

I thought Gaudy meant mean or rude because it kind of sounds like naughty.

The Myth is called Poseidon.

Chiron announced that Percy Jackson is the son of Poseidon. Everyone is shocked because Poseidon was not supposed to have kids. No one else is son of Poseidon.

Poseidon is the god of the sea. He was the brother of Zeus and Hades. He has a huge trident always in his hand.

" A little girl named Thalia .... well, the River Styx is serious about promises. Zeus got himself off easy because he is a immortal, but he brought a terrible fate to his daughter.(pg 114)

Thalia is the daughter of Zeus. She sacrificed her life for her friends. she got hunted because she was Zeus's daughter. Zeus recognized that she was a good person and put her soul in a tree so she could watch over everyone.

The Myth is called Dionysus.

" Oracle: You shall go west, and face the god who has turned" (pg 140)

The Oracle is a creepy Mummy that whispered in Percy Jackson's head when he was in the attic all by his self when Chiron told him to go up there.

" It was Eerily quiet without the sound of when it rained." (pg 162)

Eerily means: in a strange or frightening manner.

I thought that Eerily meant creepy quiet because I have that same feeling sometimes when it's quiet.

The Myth is called Cyclopes.

Cyclopes when mentioned when Chiron was naming the dangers of the monster in the past.

A giant monster that is a Greek myth. It has a big eye on his forehead. He is very scary.

"This is Arugus, Chiron told me . He will drive you into the city, and, er, well, keep an eye on one thing." (pg 150)

Arugus is a giant with about a hundred eyes on his body, he served Hera, and he is a very faithful guard.

The Myth is called The three Gorgons.

The three Gorgons were mentioned when Grover was explaining how Medusa got help from her two sisters to break into her temple.

The three Gorgons are the two sisters of Medusa their names are Medusa, Stheno, and Euryale. They are very evil.

"Oh, my dears, the women said. You must come in, poor children. I am Aunty Em. Go straight through to the back of the warehouse, please, There is a dinner area." (pg 173)

Aunty Em is Medusa. She has a vale over her eye so she can look nice so people can meet her. She seems very nice but is evil.

"Gray mist creatures churned all around me, whispering rags of smoke that I somehow knew were the spirits of the dead." (pg 193)

Churned: (with reference to liquid) move or cause to move about vigorously.

I thought that churned meant surrounding all around you because in the book it said "creatures churned all around me." That sound like they are surrounding you.

"Gladiola is a poodle who can speak, Percy, and we need help." (pg 195)

Gladiola is a poodle that they found in the woods. He can speak and he helped Percy Jackson get money by returning him to his home.

"Percy you cannot Barter with Hades. You know that right." (pg 199)

Barter: exchange (goods or services) for other goods or services without using money.

I thought that Percy meant you cannot be mean to Hades because they said it like it will have a bad end if you do something to Hades.

The Myth is called Chimera.

Chimera gets mentioned when Percy was in the Great Arch and he attacked him.

Chimera is a fire breathing monster. They are very crazy and could easily kill you. They are very big and strong. They are mix of a lion, dog, and deer.

" I sank through the murk, sure that I was about to end up embedded in a hundred feet of mud and lost forever." (pg 212)

Embedded: fixed firmly and deeply in a surrounding mass; implanted.

I though Embedded meant to come back alive from the dead because at the time Percy fell off a huge building ( The Arch).

The Myth is called Echinia.

Echinia gets mentioned when Percy Jackson got a flash back of when her "pet" Chimera pushed him off the ledge.

Echinia is the "guardian" of the monster Chimera. She seems nice but she is working for Hades and is not good at all.

"We are three adolescents hanging out at a car wash without a car." (pg 219)

Adolescent: an adolescent boy or girl.

I thought that Adolescents meant lonely or alone because when they said the word when they were stranded.

The Myth is called Iris.

Iris gets mentioned when Percy, Annabeth, and Grover talk to the goddess when she sends a message over the rainbow to Luke.

Iris is the goddess of rainbows and messaging. She helps Hermes and sends messages to all the Olympians.

"You're Clarisse's dad, I said. Ares the god of war." (pg 226)

Ares is a god of war. He is Clarisse's father. He asked Percy Jackson to go fetch his shield and if Percy did then he would find out about his father.

" He slung a blue nylon backpack off his handlebars and tossed me." (pg 243)

Nylon: a tough, lightweight, elastic synthetic polymer with a protein-like chemical structure, able to be produced as filaments, sheets, or molded objects.

I thought Nylon meant a type or brand of a backpack because it said in the text "a blue nylon backpack."

My Myth is called Cupid.

Cupid gets mentioned when Percy goes to retrieve Ares shield and when he went to go grab it he saw Cupid statues.

Cupid is known has the god of love and desire. He shoots a bow and arrow at people he wants to fall in love with. His looks are kind of like a baby.

" He said is name was Disco Darren, but as soon as I started asking him questions he got bored with me and started to go back to the computer screen." (pg 262)

Disco Darren is very glued to his game on the computer. He is rude sometimes. He ignores a lot of people when he is on his computer.

" Is Percy Jackson a delinquent, a terrorist, or perhaps the brainwashed victim of a frightened new cult? ( pg 275)

Delinquent: (typically of a young person or that person's behavior) showing or characterized by a tendency to commit crime, particularly minor crime.

I thought delinquents meant someone who is very bad. In the quote it said " a terrorist" witch kind makes delinquent sound bad.

My Myth is called Procrustes.

Procrustes get mentioned when they go into the store with all of the water beds. Annabeth and Grover went on one of the beds and almost got stretched to death. Then Percy Jackson tricked Procrustes to go on to the bed so he could get stretched to death. Percy saved Grover and Annabeth.

Procrustes was a robber in Greek mythology who would force travelers to fit in his famous iron water bed by either stretching their bodies or cutting off their limbs.

" I'm Crusty , he said with a tarter-yellow smile. I resisted the urge to say, Yes, you are." (pg 277)

Crusty is a very "crusty" person. Percy Jackson, Annabeth and Grover all met him when bullies chased them into the store. He is really the Greek myth Procrustes, but he just shortened his name to Crusty. He sells water beds, but secretly tricks people to go on them and stretch them to death.

" She wanted reassurance that somebody else was alive on this boat." (pg 290)

Reassurance: the action of removing someone's doubts or fears.

I thought that reassurance meant someone she wanted to remind someone else or like to tell someone something.

My Myth is Cerberus.

Cerberus was mentioned when Percy Jackson, Annabeth, and Grover went to the underworld to find Hades. Annabeth became very good friends with Cerberus.

Cerberus is a three headed dog that is sometimes mean. It is very big. It is usually a black dog. They are usually known as loyal to Hades.

"Can you read this mate? It says CHARON. Say it with me: CARE-ON." (pg 285)

Charon is the man at the front desk at the DOA lobby. He brings Percy Jackson, Grover, and Annabeth to the underworld.

"But I thought of how few people there were in Elysium." (pg 302)

Elysium: a place or condition of ideal happiness.

It thought Elysium meant something like you're hypnotized because in the text it sounds like he was thinking that.

The Myth is called Tartarus.

Tartarus was mentioned when Grover was getting dragged into a pit because his shoes went crazy. They had wings.

Tartarus is a pit in the underworld where monsters go in. It is a place in Greek Mythology.

"The room inside looked just like a dream, except this time the throne was occupied. He was the third god I'd met, but the first who really struck me as godlike. (pg 309)

Hades is the god/king of the Under World. He is Zeus and Poseidon's brother. He is very misunderstood.

"It's probably too complicated for your little mortal brain to follow, but the backpack is the master bolt's sheath, just morphed a bit." (pg 323)

Sheath: a protective covering around an electric cable.

I thought it meant something heavy because it was talking about how weak Percy Jackson.

My Myth is called Ichor.

It was mentioned when Percy Jackson wounded Ares to make him bleed Ichor.

Ichor is an old Greek Myth. It is the blood of gods in Greek mythology. It is gold and shiny. Only gods have this type of blood.

" I approached the fisherman's throne and knelt at his feet. Father. My heart was racing. It as Poseidon." (pg 341)

Poseidon is the dad of Percy Jackson. he is the brother of Zeus and Hades. He has a trident and he is the god of the sea. He only has one son even though he was not supposed to.
