I think that the story takes place a little bit farther in the future. I am theorizing this because the city still has China town, the Mission district, and all of the landmarks that are really in San Francisco. While this is true, the technology is more advanced than what we have right now. That is why I think that Little Brother takes place in the future.

Their city is changed forever. Darryl is missing, and the government is spying on every action performed by it's citizens. Marcus and his friends decide to start a rebellion.

They devotes most of his time in computers and is a rebellious 17 year old that feel like school is a waste of time. The author obviously intended us to found that out because the first scene in the book is Marcus in the office. Ditching classed is daily for Marcus and if he is not doing anything he is probable with his love Ange.The lager problem in the book is when terrorists blow up the Bay Bridge the city is put under surveillance. A rebellious person rebels for what they stand for and thats what Marcus and his buddies did. Privacy was a privilege take by the government and marcus doesn't agree. He is a strong believer in privacy. "There's something really liberating about having some corner of your life that's yours, that no one gets to see except you."

Since the book puts it in the mind of Marcus I think that the Camera's are a symbol of the government violating citizens privacy and how Marcus is strongly against it. It keeps popping up because it's an unaddressed matter and Marcus really wants to do something about it.

I know this because Marcus Yallow stood up for the people of San Fransisco when the government was wrongfully taking people right away by putting everyone under surveillance. Also kidnapping people unjustly for questioning. You was the voice of the unheard people.
