1. I think that East is a very academic focused school. This can cause lots of pressure on kids and how well they do at East.This could lead to a sense of not belonging if you don't think that your smart enough to be here or that you aren't fitting the expectations of this school.
2. Sometimes my teachers are helpful by just saying Hello and checking in with me if I seem upset sometimes that can really help just to show that they care about you and how you are feeling.

4. Sometimes people make fun of other people in the disguise of joking, and it hurts, and other people say it's nothing, but it's not nothing.  Why would a person do that? When a student comes to a teacher and is behind, and take time to help them, rather than just dismiss them and say, have it done by... the student just feels lost then. There is a sense of feeling that people with differences are not respected. As a society I don't think there is anything that can be done. Publicly discouraging people from being non inclusive makes things worse.  Teaching about it a bit could help people understand better. (LGBTQIA+). There are some Anti-Semitic symbols in some of the bathrooms. People think it's okay to draw/write some things like this in the bathrooms and completely forget about the history of these people. If people know that they are not going to get caught they do a lot of things.  There are a lot of homophobic or racist people in our school, mostly people make fun of people for dressing differently, just for being different. People that engage in violence and endanger other people need to face greater consequences. People make fun of substitutes when they can't pronounce people's names properly. People are influenced by Youtube to act a certain way.  There needs to be a greater sense of monitoring behavior - when teachers are not obvious or in sight.
Some people don't feel like they belong because....
They don't feel like they can talk about things to do with 2nd amendment rights/gun rights. Things like that happen most often in America, and because of that people do not feel safe in schools.  Guns are the things that don't happen to you, they happen to someone else.  It could happen to anyone.  It could happen here, and it is scary because East is notorious for fights here, and if someone used a gun rather than their fists, it could happen here. It is overly politicized so that prevents progress. Security looks extremely authoritarian, but is necessary in schools and it shouldn't be.  
We should all treat people the way we want to be treated.  Enforce anti bullying policy, not defending the bully. Students feel isolated if they feel bullied.  Show these students that there are good/nice/accepting people at East. Avoid trying to profile people, but have harsher consequences for repeat offenders of bullying/angry/violent/assault (including sexual) behaviors. Admin/teachers don't seem to be able to do anything because of the social structure.  If a student is 'accepted' (popular/privileged) they are unlikely to suffer consequences.  There is a problem with equity here.  The more popular students and supported/defended by their friends and this affects the school's power dynamics. Creating a safe environment would be more effective than getting more cameras.  Safety measures such as locking doors etc., although students understand the reasons, it is frustrating and makes students feel their needs are not being met. Administration need to initiate better solutions to problems that are truly helpful and not mere band aid measures.  Surveys are only for show, so that schools can say that they are 'doing something' to address student safety/mental health issues.

A lot of times teachers will reach out to offer extra help if they think you need it. Student's appreciate teachers are proactive and really want to help students. When students have a lot going on and reach out to teachers, they are understanding.  Teachers give extensions that are asked for.
In general students try to support each other and help each other out. Students are as helpful as possible to each other and won't refuse to help (eg. sharing chargers etc). Students are dealing with similar things and understand where others are going from, so try to be as helpful as possible.  Now that students are older, they are doing their own thing, and most of the time, so don't get in each other's face about things.  Students don't feel judged by other students for what they do in classes. 
Inclusivity might come down to who is saying what.  Introverts might feel more judged than extroverts. There's a difference in classes.  In some classes  there are differences in experiences.  A lot of times the bad treatment of others hides underneath kindness, (things can be said behind students' backs, rather than to a person's face/in the moments).  There is intergroup drama that can divide friendship groups, and create a rift.  People join in with drama because of those rifts. After Freshmen year, we had our groups, our people, but as people mature they change. It depends on your relationships with others as to whether you feel safe/accepted or not, or feel judged. These feelings can also depend on your classmates. The way teachers can organize their teaching can form connections sometimes even though it's been uncomfortable at first, but other students feel threatened by this practice (forcing students to work in groups).
Don't think it's possible in a school environment to make everyone feel respected.  The pac groups are ineffective and the presentations are also ineffective.  Some students don't know or have any friends in the pac groups. There are some teachers who should not be leading pac.
Transfer students experienced that they were warned that East in not inclusive to outsiders, but everyone will find their group eventually. This is an issue in the area not just in the school. People that don't like someone will just ignore others rather than being rude.  This is more hurtful than when people are mean, because students don't know what they're doing wrong.  This is particularly noticeable in terms of academic grades or economic groups. Friendship groups more often cross grade level divisions. (eg. 10th graders have more friends that are Juniors). Teacher led pacs do not help students to get to know their grade level peers.  The Student leader idea may help with this next year.  If you are in a group and feel uncomfortable and are expected to engage in SEL, this doesn't work.  This school has a lot of issues with competition, not just academics any more, but with everything. Students that don't want to be involved in competitions are actively 'shunned.' Other students feel that it is hard to make friends when everyone knows each other. Hard to compare public and private schools.  There are/have been lots of fights at school.  A lot of the problems in other schools are teacher centered.  A lot of the problems here are student centered.

I see the teachers every day, and they know students better than the counselors. Some students find it is often hard to get access their counselors.  Counselors have no been responsive to student contact. They are never there. Counselors often redirect students to someone else. This makes the students feel stupid and that they have to figure it out for themselves. APs are often more accessible than counselors.  They take the time to make the relationships with the students, than the counselors do. Adults you see in the hallway are often more caring/reliable than the counselors (security/janitors other teachers etc.)  It is easy to contact the APs (even Mr Casey), but not to contact the counselors.  Mr Casey is more present than previous principals. Mr Casey is checking in with students. Some teachers (language teachers) seem unprepared/unqualified to teach their languages. 
Teachers need not to power trip on students. Teachers are not always consistent in the way they behave toward students. Trust needs to be built between teacher and student. It is hard for teachers to work with a student if they are difficult in class. Teachers are able to respond to students who are obviously having a bad day. Counselors should be more involved in supporting students because teachers don't have the knowledge to be able to offer the necessary help to students. Large classes makes for a lesser connection between teacher and students. Online doesn't make it possible to connect with students, students need the relationship of trust and to help out with students. Teachers are simply assigning work, rather than properly instructing in/with small group work. Learning needs to be universal, equity for everyone. Some teachers don't help, even when students reach out to them, and allow them to make up missed work. Some parts of school organization don't make sense. There is no parity of delivery (google vs canvass etc.) Pac has not been effective because it feels forced and/or assignment based. Students feel it is hard to get to know everyone in class without group work, because they don't know with them enough, so don't trust them. Homeroom might be a better way to build trust between students, and between students and teachers. I think a lot of teachers do try their best to support me and I've noticed and appreciate that. However some of them need to deal with and address their own problems first, instead of taking it out on students. I have experienced and heard about multiple teachers like this. It's not a judgment towards them, but it's not fair to students. It makes us stressed and feel resentment towards school in general. I don't think we should be dreading a class because of a teacher.

3.  I think we typically show respect for each other by mutual understanding and empathy.

4. People need to deal with their own issues and insecurities, taking it out on other people isn't cute or funny. I've noticed a lack of empathy in general. I think we all put labels on each other too much. I know people who immediately assume that a girl is mean just because she's popular or a guy is creepy just because of the way he dresses.

5. The intense academic pressure. When I prioritize my mental health as oppose to taking an unhealthy amount of course loads it makes me feel stupid, or like I'm lacking in effort. I've noticed that "sacrificing for grades" is very glorified, for example not getting enough sleep, and not taking care of yourself and working over and over non-stop is "admirable" or "favorable". I've noticed both students and teachers encourage this narrative. Some people might be fit for working all the time and that's their choice, but for the rest of us it is miserable. The pressure to be perfect and outstanding is intense and it drains you. I've seen multiple examples of students not taking care of themselves for their work. I've seen it in my friends and family. This is unhealthy and I've been there, I've fed into that narrative, and it can destroy you. Especially for students that have complications like mental heath related things. To see your peers and teachers talk about this, and wallow in it makes you feel alienated. Because you know you can't handle that, and it makes you feel stupid. This is a factor in our mental health, and I know people who have felt as far as suicidal over this. Because "they cant keep" up, or "what they do is never enough".
